Flies In Next Door Vacant House

Smokeahontas · 30/08/2018 20:04

The house beside me has been lying empty for 2+ years now. No one has been near it to my knowledge.

Anyway, yesterday and today there’s been a sudden explosion of flies / bluebottles in the windows. Not just one or two - I mean buzzing with them.

Phoned the council who said ‘we’ll look into that’ but God knows when. The most obvious answer is a dead rodent of some kind, but what else could it be? I mean it’s quite random after so long.

Any chance a rat could've got in?

CarrieBlu · 30/08/2018 21:24

Probably a dead animal of some sort. I think I’d have my face pressed up against the glass too!

3luckystars · 30/08/2018 21:29

Why would they check for dna if there was just money missing? Do you think she was set up Claire?

Anyway I don’t even want to stay on this thread now because I don’t want to be implicated in the pigeon murder. It’s frightening.

KEEP OUT!

Clairetree1 · 30/08/2018 21:37

it wasn't just money missing, the neighbour was dead on the settee, and had apparently been burgled some time, before or after death.

It was an unexplained death, and is still unexplained, and I don't know if my friend was set up or not. It could be that the family took the money themselves, or that the money never existed, or that there was a burglary, even a murder, nothing was ever answered.

yes it was an awful thing for my friend to get involved in, this was years ago, and she hasn't got over it. She did actually go right inside the house and discover the body, but even just going onto the grounds you could be leaving DNA and footprints, possibly contaminating a crime scene, you just don't know.

i wouldn't go anywhere near. Keep well away and call 101.

you are right, it is probably an animal, a cat or fox maybe, but it could be a squatter, or somebody else

Smokeahontas · 30/08/2018 21:44

Jesus this escalate quickly!

There’s def been no one living there or even about that I can recall but then again I’m not here all the time either. The blinds have been drawn at the front of the house all along, the flies are buzzing about between them and the window. They have spikes along the top of their back wall as a burglar deterrent so it’s a no go as well.

I genuinely wasn’t thinking dead body, was more something like a backed up toilet or whatever. We’re terraced houses so would some smell not be apparent in my house?

Do you know that the neighbours moved?

Maybe ask the postman (if you ever see a postman) if he still delivers to them regularly?

I would possibly call the police and mention you are concerned and you haven't seen anyone in the property for many years. It literally could be a dead body. Alternatively contact environmental health, although they could be really slow to respond.

Smokeahontas · 30/08/2018 22:04

The last lady I remember living there def moved out and she lived there on her own. I phoned the council today but all they said was ‘we’ll look into it’

I'd call 101.

NapQueen · 30/08/2018 23:57

Someone I know of is a mega compulsive hoarder to the point of....well....I dont even know what. Vile.

Police broke down his door due to bluebottles as bluebottles = dead body. In his instance it was "dead birds ive shot and hung and left" 《vom》.

My point - its not nothing, op. Report.

user764329056 · 30/08/2018 23:58

There would be an unbearable smell if someone had died in there, especially after the weeks of heat that we’ve had, dead bodies putrify and if left unattended the smell is overwhelming

Neverplayleapfrogwithaunicorn · 31/08/2018 00:08

There could be a dead squatter?

3luckystars · 31/08/2018 04:44

Or a dead otter.

Lidlbutfierce · 31/08/2018 05:11

Blatant placemark

Mrsmorton · 31/08/2018 05:14

The last post mortem dental identification I did (about 3 weeks ago) was. Guy who'd died & neighbours were alerted by the number of flies... made me quite sad that no one had missed him for so long.

101 will be used to people calling for this OP, you will do no harm by calling them.

GlitteryFluff · 31/08/2018 06:36

Eugh.
I'd call the police too I think.

FruitCider · 31/08/2018 08:23

Bluebottles? I'd definitely ring the police and I'm normally one to say not to bother!

Smokeahontas · 31/08/2018 08:47

Have reported to the police this morning. They’re going to send some officers out to try and see what’s going on. Will keep you updated!

This happened to a friend of mine. Turned out the previous owner had committed suicide inside the garage next door. There was a smell though.

Youvegotafriendinme · 31/08/2018 08:57

Oh gosh, that would freak me out! I hate flies at the best of times. Keep us updated though, I feel the need to know now

MummySparkle · 31/08/2018 09:01

That's so gross! Fingers crossed the police cAn look into it and it's just an animal of some kind. At the very least if you're attached I'd be wanting the flies out of there ASAP!!

FabulouslyGlamorousFerret · 31/08/2018 09:06

I'm thinking a dead 🐀

Smokeahontas · 31/08/2018 09:23

Well the police have just been out. They’ve checked the front and back of the properties and because both are secure and there’s no other evidence of a break in, they don’t have the power to kick the door in. Strangely, the council will because dead animals could be a public health issue.

So not much further on!

OP posts:
Strawberrybelly · 31/08/2018 09:24

Hopefully its just a bird or rat or something.

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 31/08/2018 09:28

So, even though there's no sign of a break-in, that doesn't mean there isn't a (human) dead body inside. They can't check?

Smokeahontas · 31/08/2018 09:58

Apparently not. If they don’t suspect a break in or anything sus, they don’t have the power to kick the door in.
