I need something I can get involved with, feel passionate about.

What are your hobbies? Grin

I started dance classes a year ago. Have made friends, lost weight, toned up and had loads of fun. Totally unpressured environment. From being a total non dancer a year ago, I've become completely addicted and now dance up to 10 hours a week. Would recommend to anyone!

I started learning the violin over a year ago. Had never picked one up but thanks to a very patient teacher I can nearly play a book full of (very!!) simple tunes. I would be much further if I could practice more, but keeping up my lessons is good for me.

Another one here reccomending a choir.
It lifts me up after a terrible day. And I've met some really wonderful, encouraging, inclusive people. Before joining I had only ever sung in my car so very much a beginner.
Worth giving it a try?

continuallychargingmyphone · 30/08/2018 19:59

The problem is, I can’t sing Blush

Surely you'll blend in?

You could be the next Shakira.

Well I do love a sing Grin

But I am very self conscious as my parents used to pull faces and put their fingers over their ears when I sang when I was little. So I never, ever sing in front of people now.

Church bellringing.

Great bunch of folks. Practise once a week and then I try to ring for Sunday service every week. Some others only make it once a month or so, do no pressure. It's all to do with bell handling and learning the special methods/sequences.
And you don't have to be religious/Christian. Everyone is welcome!

And it's free!

CleverQuacks · 30/08/2018 20:59

I have just started to learn to scuba dive. I am loving it

IsItCoffeeTimeYet · 31/08/2018 07:59

Sounds so similar to me ContinuallyCharging ! (Although it was my sisters, not my parents covering their ears.)
The choir has done wonders for my confidence, and I've realised I'm not as terrible as I thought.
A community choir will get people of all abilities, a e.g. church choir might expect you to be good! Most offer a free taster session, so try a couple to find the right fit for you.
Mine is a gospel choir, now I feel trendy after the royal wedding!

wellies · 31/08/2018 08:32

Do you have a Tuneless Choir anywhere near you? They are choirs of people who meet just to have a communal sing-along, no singing ability necessary. Mostly popular music/showtunes, the sort of things you sing along to in the car.
I go with a friend sometimes but our nearest is quite a few miles away and we can't make it as often as we'd like.

Beechview · 31/08/2018 08:35

Learning. I do online courses (free ones) and read non fiction books about all sorts of things.

ajandjjmum · 31/08/2018 08:35

Had my first golf lesson (for 40 years!!) yesterday - hoping to prove it's never too late to learn!

Like the fact it's a mix of exercise and social, something I could do with other family members, and you don't have to give up when you get older.
