Lunchbox ideas?

Dd1 is going into year 3 and up until now has had the free school meals for infants. I need tothink of some good lunchbox ideas for her so we don't end up with the same thing all the time. What does everyone do for packed lunches for dc?

Also any inspiration for me too as I seem to be really bad at thinking of things to take to work for lunch and get bored of sandwiches all the time!

Tuna in pitta, some carrot and cucumber sticks with hummus.
Then some fruit and a small cake/cake bar is a winner here

Sorry forgot to say
M&S do the very small pittas which are perfect to pack with difffrent meats/veg etc

I definitely get the bored of sandwiches thing! How about pasta salad with sweetcorn, ham, cherry tomatoes etc. Also cheese/cold meats and crackers can work well in packed lunches.

Sometimes I pack cold pizza or pasta. Wraps are a favourite with different fillings. Oatcakes and cheese. Savoury muffins.

Ds is going into year 2 but wants packed lunches his year. Took him round Asda and said if you see anything you fancy for packed lunches tell me.

Approved list includes:
mini pitta breads/mini cheese tortillas as a change from sandwiches
Mini individual malt loaves
Pre packed fruit and veg (5 for £1.50 including melon wedges, pineapple sticks, carrot sticks etc) also apples and clementines
Individual portioned cheese sticks (I'll just be cutting a bit off our normal cheese obviously)
Frubes
Boiled eggs (not pre packed obviously Confused)
Snack cucumbers (actually from Lidl they are so tasty and crunchy!)
Cheese topped rolls

Declined list:
Expensive smoothies
Mini rolls
Lunchables Hmm
Crisps
Cold pizza (worried it will make me look bad even though he eats it at home)

Looking to jazz it up myself tbh it feels boring but we aren't allowed a lot of stuff and he won't go near a sausage roll/pork pie or anything like that.

Sandwiches, muffins, cheese & oatcakes, wraps, bagels.

I mostly take leftovers.

Fantail · 30/08/2018 20:05

Also, hard boiled eggs, left over sausages, pancakes, waffles.

Then fruit, yoghurt, creamed rice, cheese and crackers.

My DC like anything on a skewer.... (see photos) pieces of ham, chopped up sausage, peppers, tomatoes, cubes of cheese, olives, bread etc... They're great for using up things in the fridge!
They also like those little one-portion pots of humous or Philadelphia which you can get from most supermarkets and I give them some chopped up veg and mini breadsticks to dip.
Instead of sandwiches, sometimes they have a slice of pizza or a mini pizza.
If I have time I make up individual portions of fruit in jelly in plastic Tupperware pots and on very rare occasions I make a stash of mini frittatas in a muffin tin. They're always popular!

Our DD takes a packed lunch pretty much all of the time.

The things she likes
Wraps.
Sandwiches made on different types of bread.
Soft rolls.
Sandwich thins.
Mini bagels.
Pittas.

With ham,cheese,mixed cheese,cheese spread,roast chicken,tuna mayo.

Sometimes she'll have pasta salad, other times a homemade cheese scone or cheese twists and some dips and hummus or a homemade sausage roll.

Depending on what else she has in her lunch we'll stick in some veggie sticks and hummus or cheese spread, some fruit,a cake or biscuit bar and some fruit.

gaggiagirl · 30/08/2018 20:23

I've got mini pittas, sandwich thins, ham, cheese spread, pate, cheese, Easy peel oranges, fake kit Kat, yogurts and crisps from aldi today for DDs first packed lunch week. I took her with me and let her choose.
She wanted trifles and nuggets.

CakeNinja · 30/08/2018 20:31

Ds is going into year 2 and for the past 2 years has pretty much had a sandwich thin with either ham or marmite.
You’d think he’d get bored but no, he likes what he likes!!
He then also has a pot of natural yoghurt and a pot of berries to add to it, a little cake bar or a couple of biscuits.
And then either some crisps, veggie sticks, sausage rolls, dried mango or raisins, basically whatever is rolling around in the fridge!

Thanks for all the suggestions. We do alredy use pitta bread and wraps as part of our lunches (I class them as sandwiches). The skewers look really interesting though and I think i am going to have to up my game with pasta salads. I also love the idea of cheese scones I make them sometimes but I hadn't thought of dd having them in her lunchbox.
