PMT rage

I came off the pill last year. Had been on it since my teens so I've never really had periods and I'm really struggling with the monthly hormonal rages I'm getting now I'm settling into a regular cycle. Is there anything I can do to combat it or do I just have to suffer for a week? Well, DH has to suffer as it's usually him that my rages are directed at. Also - I seem to get a premenstrual insomnia- anyone else get this?? The week before my period the quality of my sleep is terrible, which probably doesn't help my mood...

Oh god, me!! I'm so horrible and I get the rage which is invariably directed at DH...I've got the copper coil so no hormones except my own!! I get so angry the week leading up but now I've recognised it I'm hoping to try and nip it in the bud. Don't know any other solution though!

I get this too. It's horrible and I can only sympathise.
Lots of people say low-carb, low caffeine, excercise etc but thinking rationally like this is practically.impossible. I wrote a monthly note to myself in my journal to remind me not to either kill myself or do something else.

Are you sure it's PMT and not just everyone else in the world viewing utterly twattish? Grin

Haha it's definitely pmt as it's over and above my regular annoyance at twattishness (twattery?).

I like the idea of a diary note. I bullet journal so maybe a wee reminder written in ahead of time that I'm not to kill anyone might help, as I do seem to be able to rein it in a bit once I realise what I'm doing.

I don't know about changing diet as I'm worried that would just induce a whole other type of rage. I love my carbs although I do stick to the good ones already- brown/wholemeal/wholewheat stuff. Cutting them right back might just push me over the edge haha.

Oh god I have this too. AF arrived this morning, but yesterday I was absolutely foul to my kids. Everything they did irritated me beyond belief and I ended up shouting. I hate it, but know it's coming so try to anticipate it and get myself ready. What I would love to do is take to my bed for a couple of days every month. Unfortunately that's frowned upon these days.

My Mum used to get awful PMT and she took Starflower Oil for it. It definitely helped. I'm pregnant now but used to get terrible PMT and also took it and it does make a big difference to my ability to stay calm and be rational. DH always knows if I've forgotten to take it. I did take it throughout the month, though.

CiderwithBuda · 31/08/2018 04:36

I used to have dreadful pmt. I had acupuncture and it really helped.

Evening primrose oil helped too but the acupuncture was much better.

tinymeteor · 31/08/2018 04:59

This was me until recent pregnancy. I used the Clue app to track my cycle so at least I knew what was happening. Otherwise the rage made me indignant about the idea it could possibly be hormonal rather than a rational response to DH being the most irritating man in the world (he isn't; he's lovely).

redexpat · 31/08/2018 05:48

I find getting lots of sleep helps.

soloula · 02/09/2018 22:28

What's the difference between evening primrose and starflower oils? Is one better than the other or can you maybe even combine them?
