FFS! Bodyform are making "perfume free" towels that aren't perfume free!

I know there's been discussions on these boards about people accidentally buying Bodyform's "deo fresh" towels due to the confusing packaging. Today at the shop I noticed they'd changed their packaging - maybe due to customer complaints?

I bought the ones in the attached photo. I was a bit unsure about the "fresh feeling" claim as you never really know what that means, however it actually says "perfume free" at the bottom left.

I've just opened the packet and they absolutely stink. Even though they're labelled as perfume free.

Would I be within my rights to go back to the shop and ask for a refund, even though I've opened the packet? I haven't used any of the towels but I've opened one of them. Surely it's false advertising or something?

I'm getting increasingly annoyed as I only switched over from Always a couple of years ago and was pleased that Bodyform are a lot more comfortable and less scratchy. I think I'm going to have to change brands again.

I second Natracare. I swapped from Always after they caused me terrible rashes. I buy them through Ocado.

DiscoDown · 29/08/2018 22:29

Lillets pads are nice, they are soft and don't really smell (the perfumes ones make me itch!). They're not easy to find though, came across them randomly in Poundstretcher but have never found them in Tesco even though they sell the tampons!

totallyliterally · 29/08/2018 22:35

Third of natracare- have only tried their liners but they're great. Only ones to not irritate me as organic and no perfume or anything. Get them from Waitrose. But think boots also do an organic plain range too

Sainsburys own brand dont smell and are reasonably priced

PutItAwayDear · 29/08/2018 22:55

Supermarket value range ones are never scented. And they don't usually have the super absorbent beads in either.

TheCrowFromBelow · 29/08/2018 23:02

Sainbury’s own brand pads are not scratchy, and don’t smell. No idea about beads though.
Their tampons are good as well.

JustLikeBefore · 30/08/2018 05:00

I agree about the Sainsbury's ones, the few times I've bought them, no smell what so ever.

StrippingLLamaWhisperer · 30/08/2018 05:07

Ffs!? I switched from always because of the dusgusting, thrushcausing 'scent'! Reusables are fine but i bleed like stuck pig and am going away where i wont be able to use them Envy

tectonicplates · 30/08/2018 17:55

I've just taken them back to the shop and got a refund.

I'm afraid I have some bad news, though. The "perfume free" ones that I returned have the same barcode as the genuinely scent-free ones that I was using before, which presumably means they've changed their "recipe". I was considering going to as many shops as possible to buy up as many of the old-style ones as I could find, but then I thought why should I give them any more of my money when they keep imposing this crap on us? The woman at the till was actually very sympathetic - she agreed that it's becoming harder and harder to find towels that are really scent-free.

Thanks to the recommendations on here, I'm going to try out both Natracare and Sainsbury's own brand. I'm not interested in cloth towels as I have to change my towel a minimum of four times on my heaviest day, so I don't see how that would work when out and about.

Another recommending sainsburys. I don't use the pads but these liners are fragrance free.
Tesco cheapest of cheap ones are also ff but my local store is always sold out of them!

I fourth vote for naturacare - I buy online in bulk.

Minniemountain · 30/08/2018 18:39

OP I have a drawstring wash bag with a removable net liner for whilst out.

NotAnotherJaffaCake · 30/08/2018 18:43

Surely if Johnson and Johnson lost a multi billion dollar lawsuit in the US on the fairly inconclusive idea that talc on bottoms causes ovarian cancer, then we should be serving lawsuits a go go on Bodyform, Always and the rest of them for the thrush and itch causing crap they are peddling?

Peopleshouldsmilemore · 30/08/2018 18:45

Another vote for Sainsburys own brand here. In a similar vein, Mitchum unscented anti-perspirant has been messed about with and now has a definite perfume scent. I hate catching wafts of perfume every time I move my arms, so I went round the local pound shops and supersavers and bought up about a year's supply of the old stock. So I'll be fine for a while, until my stock pile runs out..

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 30/08/2018 18:51

If you really can't bear washables, then another vote for Natracare

ursuslemonade · 30/08/2018 19:01

Boots and Superdrug own brand pads. For about 75p a pack. Hate the smelly stuff.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 30/08/2018 19:04

This pisses me off so much

I think I’m going to switch to washable pads. The chemicals alone are awful!

HerculesMulligan · 30/08/2018 19:07

This is why I use the massive Kotex mattressy ones now. I just wear unfitted clothes for a few days, in preference to having the hideous smell, itching and soreness.

poorbuthappy · 30/08/2018 19:14

Most of the own brand towels are fragrance free. I've used Boots Tesco Asda and Sainsbury’s.

MollyMallyMindy · 30/08/2018 19:16

Sainsburys Basics or standard are un-minging.
Though no MN sanpro thread is complete without a mention of menstrual cups so I'll just say I tried one a few months ago and it's quite good (not perfect but better than towels and saves money after a couple mo nths)

keepingbees · 30/08/2018 19:28

I use those same bodyform ones and they have no smell at all?

dinosaurkisses · 30/08/2018 19:33

Question for anyone who uses washables- what do you do with a used towel because rinsing it immediately after use and doing a wash at the end of your period? I love the idea of them but I’m put off by the idea of used, damp pads sitting for 2-3 days.

Currently using a Mooncup but want to buy washables for late pregnancy and post partum bleeding.

tectonicplates · 30/08/2018 19:34

Either you're using the old ones, or you have a bad sense of smell.

I’ve been buying TOTM via amazon for a while now- Organic and no “perfume”, no plastic wrapper either. They do a whole range of products.

Even walking down the feminine hygiene aisle makes me feel ill, the smell is so awful. Pretty grim too, when someone walks past you and leave a bodyform vapour trail in their wake 😷

keepingbees · 30/08/2018 20:26

I have a very good sense of smell and they were bought about two weeks ago Hmm
