When is it negativity and when is it realism?

I am aware that I often see the risks/difficulties in a situation and try not to say the first thing the comes to mind. I don't mean to be critical but if you ask me what I think about a situation, unfortunately the first thing I'm likely to think is that it won't work because, or that's going to work out far more expensive than you think or oh no, that will go wrong etc.

A friend has just posted a photo of their campsite. A beautiful view over a cliff top. My first response was "gosh that will be blowy". I didn't post it but what's wrong with me that I don't see the positive in things first? (I do see it eventually, but I have to do the worrying first)

I'm the same. It's realism imo. My boss calls it negative but lives in a state of perpetual disappointment when things don't work out the way he expected whereas I am always pleasantly surprised. Grin

Well, you can't change your thoughts, but thankfully you are able to keep them private! Just try to look for any positives and mention them first.

You sound like my mum!

I love her, but she is v negative.

I think as long as you bite your tongue and do the initial 'negative' first thoughts internally you can work your way through to the positives.
