I've broken down :-(

Middle of my working day. On the m62. Currently stood just staring at my car. All because I'm not allowed to change the tyre/use the repair kit.

Can't say I feel safe. And I've stood in a bunch of nettles wearing ballet flats and a dress.

At least it isn't raining?

Someone cheer me up?

Before anyone says anything.... I'm as safe as can be. Waiting for the AA. I have nothing else I can do.

And why the fuck are people, men, catcalling out their car/van windows? I've never felt more fucking vulnerable.

I'm so sorry this happened but don't waste your phone battery on Mumsnet!

Give anyone else who catcalls you a big 🖕

All because I'm not allowed to change the tyre/use the repair kit.

What?

cjt110 · 29/08/2018 12:54

Oh dear. Whereabouts are you on the '62 - some places are so barren :(

Hoppinggreen · 29/08/2018 12:55

It’s because you are wearing a dress, you should have worn a more gender neutral outfit in case you broke down, clearly you are asking for trouble
Hope Breakdown won’t be long x

Rachelsholiday · 29/08/2018 12:57

I once got a flat on the M25 there is NO WAY i would risk changing the tyre myself on the side of a motorway. I will do in on a service station but the motorway is bloody scary
Can you get away from the car up the embankment?

Iruka · 29/08/2018 12:59

All because I'm not allowed to change the tyre/use the repair kit.

What?

We aren't allowed to change tyres on the work pool cars either. Completely dismantle heavy machinery, yes. Change tyres, absolutely not. Its ridiculous

Kelsoooo · 29/08/2018 13:02

I've two phones, they're only fifteen minutes away now.

Yeah, company car. We aren't allowed to do anything. And tbh, no way would I want to. The trucks are thundering down here and you'd never see me.

To the PP, yep I shouldn't have put my knee length black dress on should I? Sexist, dangerous pigs. They make me jump a mile every time :-(

And I've stood in nettles and an ants nest.

Ironic thing is, I cancelled annual leave today :-(

Changing a wheel on the hard shoulder of a motorway is incredibly dangerous and not recommended, especially if it's on the driver's side. Driving on the motorway with a gunk repaired tyre isn't a great idea either because I think you can only do 50 mph.

Much safer that you wait behind the barrier for the breakdown truck. When they come, you will notice that they park at a distance behind you, with a million flashing lights on, to hopefully protect the breakdown person from traffic.

Hope breakdown comes soon. Which junction are you near? One with nice views or somewhere urban?

Justanotheruser01 · 29/08/2018 13:41

Hope youve been rescued by now!

HarrietSchulenberg · 29/08/2018 13:45

I know someone who was horrifically injured changing a tyre on a hard shoulder of a motorway. He was hit by a car that moved just an inch into the hard shoulder in the dark and driving rain. Hit my friend and carted him 80ft down the motorway, didn't touch the car but left friend with life-changing injuries. It's just not worth the risk, so if anyone else is thinking of attempting it, please just don't.

Kelsoooo · 29/08/2018 14:11

I was rescued quickly :-) thanks for the company.
Now sat in the local tyre place, it was nearly as scary doing 50mph for 20 miles as it was being in the outside lane when everything was flashing telling me to stop.

Can you tell it's the first time I've ever broken down? Haha
