DN is about to start uni and I'd love to get her a present to say good luck and show how proud I am of her. She's staying at home and is 18. She loves fashion, make up, music - standard 18 year old stuff. Any ideas?

Budget around £20 but that's flexible.

Cash. Cash always works for students.
How much do you want to spend?

Finfintytint · 27/08/2018 22:29

X post.
Posh toiletries.
Posh stationery.
Lap top bag.

A diary had crossed my mind by i hadn't thought of stationery in general. Good idea - thanks. I always end up doing cold hard cash but wanted an actual token this time Smile.

When each of mine left home I made them a box. I think I got the idea from here many years ago !
I bought a nice storage box, or you could cover a shoe box, and put in it all sorts of things that could be useful and you might not have to hand away from home (piece of string, elastic bands, safety pins, blu-tack, drawing pins, little bag of coins, etc) along with a few things they liked (lip gloss, sweeties, small book, etc). Topped it off with a card with a personal message in

A George Foreman grill or a toastie machine.
My parents got this for my DD and it’s definitely been well used!
Not sentimental but very practical and less washing up!

Touchnotthiscat · 27/08/2018 22:47

Oops just saw she’s staying at home so probably not such a good pressie!

pilates · 27/08/2018 22:48

How about putting a hamper together with little treats, like a nice shower gel, bath bombs, hot chocolate sachets, face mask, nice sweets.

pilates · 27/08/2018 22:49

Sorry scrap that, thought she was going away.

Sainsbury's/ Tesco/ M & S voucher so they can buy some decent food.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 27/08/2018 23:07

When my son started uni I got him to send me his favourite holiday views, I then got them printed out from my phone( Boots have kiosks) and bought frames.. He has them up in his room in halls

As a token gift for somebody staying at home, I think a pile of stationery is probably the best idea.
Pukka pads or similar
Highlighters
Page markers
Post-its etc

PickAChew · 27/08/2018 23:08

If she's staying at home then vouchers that she can use to socialise or buy clothes with. Or just hard cash!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/08/2018 23:10

Or find out what coffee shops there are on campus, and get a gift card for one of them, if a chain.

TheDuckSaysMoo · 27/08/2018 23:13

Some stationery and a coffee shop gift card - sorted! Thanks very much for the ideas. I'm sure she'd prefer cash or booze but her mum will be happier with this Smile.

An eyeshadow palette?

MorseandLewis · 28/08/2018 05:32

Cash,all the way.

listsandbudgets · 28/08/2018 05:44

Young persons rail card though they maybe outside your budget. Even if shes staying at home shes likely to make friends from all over
