A weird thing just happened...

I was in the bath and I started feeling weird, a bit light headed and dizzy. I got out of the bath and felt very light headed and so dizzy I couldn't focus properly. I managed to walk to my bedroom and lay down and still feel a bit shaky and odd.

This hasn't happened to me before! Any ideas?

I'm scared to go to sleep now!

This happened to me once as I was getting out of the bath. I was talking to my friend at the time and she heard me collapse so sent round her DH to check on me. He found me lying naked on the bathroom floor just coming round. Not a pretty sight I can tell you.

NCNCNC123 · 27/08/2018 22:42

This happened to me at the weekend. Only I:

  • stood up to wash my hair under the shower, felt faint, tried to sit down but fell hitting my forehead on something
  • washed hair sitting in the bath, then stayed sitting til I felt a bit better
  • stood up to get out, but felt faint again so turned round to sit on the side of the bath
  • fainted, fell back, hit my head and knocked myself out
  • bit my lip
  • burnt my arm quite badly on the radiator, which my arm was lying against

I don't recommend this sequence of events!

Bath too hot? Happened to me a couple of times. I don't have baths now, only showers.

Once I was in a hot bath and jumped out when someone knocked at the door. I threw on my dressing gown, raced downstairs, opened the door...

And promptly lost consciousness in front of my neighbour. 😁

This happened to me a few months ago. Came on really suddenly, I too thought blood pressure from getting up too quickly. Within a couple of hours I’d developed a temp of 42 and felt horrendous. Turned out I had a very nasty bout of tonsillitis. I’ve never had an illness come on so quickly and it was very frightening at the time particularly as it was in the early hours and I was alone with my 2 children.

Jacuzzi legs, it killed Whitney Houston

LemonysSnicket · 27/08/2018 23:55

Well... that and all the drugs

Rebecca36 · 28/08/2018 00:36

If your bath was hot, that was probably the cause. I always used to take my baths too hot and often felt like it. It's OK if you're going to bed but otherwise I suggest you have a much cooler bath or a shower.

esk1mo · 28/08/2018 00:40

it can happen when you haven’t had enough fluids/water to drink, or if you haven’t had much to eat.

if it happens again maybe get a blood test and BP checked by doctor, you might have low iron.

delphguelph · 28/08/2018 01:48

I had that once in a Travelodge bath near York. Felt like I'd been hit with a lamp post. Took me half an hour to recover.

delphguelph · 28/08/2018 01:49

P. S. The bath was really hot though.

EnidButton · 28/08/2018 02:08

Yes, low blood pressure. Drink plenty of water (sips are fine, no need to chug lots at once.) eat something salty, cold compress (damp flannel or frozen gel pack) on forehead or back of neck, llie down for a bit with feet propped up, don't stand up fast. And don't have your bath very hot.

I have very low blood pressure and those are the things that help me.

Thehappychef · 28/08/2018 05:51

Always take the plug out before you stand up in the bath. If you do get light headed and faint, you won't risk drowning as the water will be draining away

Angie169 · 28/08/2018 06:05

I get light-headed very easily if I don't eat regularly although it's never affected me when I have a hot bath perhaps a combination of low salt , no food recently and a hot bath has brought it on.
It's a good excuse to have a slice of toast a glass of water and go and lie down again for a bit until you're feeling yourself

snoopydogg · 28/08/2018 21:42

Well it's just happened again! This time not in the bath.. in my bedroom in bed.

Now I really am scared...

You didn't die last night, I.m Sure you'll be fine. Just book a doctors app ointment tomorrow.

esk1mo · 28/08/2018 22:31

go see GP, could be anything from low BP, low blood sugar, dehydration, ear infection, virus, low iron, medication.

when i get this its because my iron is low, or because i havent eaten enough calories.

try not to worry. Flowers

WhoWants2Know · 28/08/2018 22:34

What were you doing beforehand this evening?

It's definitely time for a gp appointment, but you don't need to be scared. It will be something simple to do with iron or what blood pressure.

PoptartPoptart · 28/08/2018 23:23

What everyone else said about the hot bath.
Also, I had to go to the doctors for a pill check a few weeks ago. They always take my blood pressure and this time it was a bit low. The doctor wasn’t worried though as it was a very hot day (30 degrees) and I was a bit dehydrated from rushing around and not drinking enough.
I had it rechecked a couple of weeks later and it was back to normal.
Make a doc appointment op just to get it checked out but try not to worry unnecessarily.

Deathraystare · 29/08/2018 08:38

Why are so many people having hot baths?!

Ok, maybe just me but I cannot stand the water too hot. I could not get in a hot bath. Mind you, my blood pressure is sky high.

Sandstormbrewing · 29/08/2018 18:52

Deathraystare I love a hot bath 40c + can't stand tepid baths. Really struggled with DS initially as I couldn't work out the right temperature for his bath! The 'right' one felt cold to me!

snoopydogg · 29/08/2018 21:04

An update!

After a third episode at work today I've been to the doctors and diagnosed with vertigo! Got lots of pills which will hopefully help as I feel bloody horrible.

Salavart62 · 07/09/2018 14:54

Hope the pills helped!
