Passport help

I’ve done my passport renewal online but think I have clicked the wrong box when doing the part about the photo. My last passport was from 2005 and ran out 3 years ago so I probably need a new photo but have clicked the box saying I’m stil recognisable. There is no counter signatory form printed out with the declaration and this is the only reason I can think why what do I do?

I had this with my daughters passport - she was 15 but still recognisable from the one ages 10 so they didn’t need a counter signature either. I freaked out as thought I’d done something wrong and I was a bit close on timings but did as the form said and sent the new photo etc and it was all fine. I did ring the passport office to check too. They didn’t even sound that connected but it was all fine!

Are you still recognisable as the same person? Or has your appearance changed drastically since your last passport? If it hasn't changed a lot, I don't think you need to do anything else other than send in your old passport and a new photo. Of it has, you'll need the photo and the form countersigning by someone professional/in good standing who has known you for over two years.

Should have said concerned!

JustAnotherSod · 27/08/2018 17:56

I renewed my passport last year - it was 4 years out of date.

I was still recognisable from the photo in the old one so just had to provide a new photo, it didn't need counter signed, they used the new photo in my new passport based it being me as confirmed by the picture in my old passport. Hope that makes sense!

xyzandabc · 27/08/2018 18:01

You still need a new photo. The question about being recognisable means if the passport person looks at your out of date photo, and then at your new photo, would they be able to tell that it's the same person in both photos.

If they would, then you have ticked the right box and you do not need the new photo countersigned.

If they wouldn't be able to tell that the 2 photos are the same person, then you've ticked the wrong box and you will need the new photo countersigned. Probably best to call them tomorrow to see if you can get a countersignatory form seperately.

My face hasn’t changed but I had a fringe in the original photo and had my glasses on this time I’ve no fringe and took my glasses off so there would be no glare

How will that work with it being an online renewal? Would they email me a form or send me a link to the form I can print off? What about the fact I’ve clicked yes on my form?

They can get you to upload a new photo using your phone. You won't need a countersignarure if you are still recognisable.

dementedpixie · 27/08/2018 18:21

What stage did you get to on the online application?

LIZS · 27/08/2018 18:24

Have you uploaded a new photo yet? All that happens is the program compares the new vs old one digitally to verify identity. If they are not compatible it will state so and you either try again or get one countersigned and sent to the pp office.

Cerseilannisterinthesnow · 27/08/2018 18:26

I tried to do a passport renewal using the service where you can take your own photo but it wouldn’t let me I could only do the one where you fill in all the bits and then pay and print off the declaration and send in the post with the photos etc, I’ve got the form printed and signed and paid the money and got the photos it’s only when I spoke to my friend who has done it this way when she mentioned there should be a form for the counter signatory and there isn’t so can only think Ive clicked the wrong thing

LIZS · 27/08/2018 18:27

Dd did not need a countersignatory for an updated photo.

ArfArfBarf · 27/08/2018 18:31

They’ll send you the form if they decide you need to get it countersigned so unless you need a quick turnaround I wouldn’t worry too much.

Cerseilannisterinthesnow · 27/08/2018 18:33

Ah well this is kind of my issue I have left it too late! A lot has been going on and it just totally slipped my mind to be honest! It’s my own fault though, I will give them a phone tomorrow just to be sure as other posters have said I may not need it signed hopefully! If not hopefully they can send me a form to get signed!

I didn't need a counter signatory for mine, despite it being 6-7 years out of date (so photo must have been at least 10yrs old, change of hair colour and lack of fringe now)
If you don't get a counter signatory form to print out then you must have ticked the box saying you were recognisable in the last photo, in which case you don't need one.

TheDuckSaysMoo · 27/08/2018 19:15

You don't need a countersignatory if you ticked the 'still recognisable' box. Just send the form away with the photos.

dementedpixie · 27/08/2018 19:23

You don't need a countersignature unless your appearance has changed drastically

Cerseilannisterinthesnow · 27/08/2018 20:03

Oh good it hasn’t then really. I was 14/15 when that one was issued but I don’t look like I’ve aged a day 😂 I’m ahem 29 now
