Random men keep buzzing our door

This is a sticky one
Since our new neighbour moved in we’ve heard a lot of men going in and out the house late at night.

We were woken up by one man pressing everyone buzzers on the entry system at 2am, waking our kids. (There’s 4 doors, one being a quiet neighbour, then us, then a very vulnerable old lady and then the new neighbour. Our system has no way of silencing, it’s fucking ancient)

I was pissed off and went out in the stair to see the new neighbour greeting this man quietly. I told her to make sure her “mate” pressed the correct buzzer . She snapped sorry at me.

Last night the same happened again, a random guy, similar times. He was looking for this lass, didn’t know exactly where she was and sounded like he didn’t really know who she was. He obviously had a drink , his eyes glazed over. I said I didn’t know who she was and he sheepishly left.

Not sure how to deal with this. I am coming to the conclusion she may be a sex worker. Now I don’t really care about her possible job (but I’m sure the landlord would) but the fact these random guys are getting access to our stair and waking my kids up is fucking me off, and pressing the buzzer that time of night of an old vulnerable lady with mobility issues and dementia could be quite frightening for her too :( Angry

Ask for whoever owns the building to upgrade the entry system?

Itsmeaga1n · 26/08/2018 22:08

Or drug dealing?

I think if it was me I'd be reporting her to the landlord.

Beaverhausen · 26/08/2018 22:10

She more than likely is. The police will actually pay her a visit as they are knocking on your door. Also let her landlord know but he more than likely knows, talk to your council's environmental health as the premises are bein used as a business.

Deffo report, how unsettling for you Sad

NoSquirrels · 26/08/2018 22:10

Just report it. Let the landlord or police investigate. Honestly don’t start worrying about neighbourly relations - it’s not going to get better, only worse.

StandDown40 · 26/08/2018 22:10

C3pu each landlord would have to chip in and none of them will come to an agreement , some don’t want anything to do with it. Obviously we would like to :/

I think I am overthinking but what if she’s not, what if there’s an explanation? I’ve already complained to her landlord already because she left her refuge of old food and cat litter stinking out in our stair, and a Sainsbury’s trolley no less (wtf)

Do the landlords each own a share of the freehold?
Is the building managed by a maintenance company?

In any case it might be worth complaining about the entry system, especially if a number of the tenants do. Complain about the security, a lot of landlords may wish to protect their investment!

NoSquirrels · 26/08/2018 22:23

what if she’s not, what if there’s an explanation?

Then she’ll give that explanation to the police and landlord.

Honestly you will regret being “nice” about this and giving the benefit of the doubt.

Lindy2 · 26/08/2018 22:23

Sex worker or drug dealer spring to my mind.
How long are the visitors staying? That might give you a bit more of a clue as to which it is.
You can report suspicious behaviour on the police non emergency number 101.

EatSleepRantRepeat · 26/08/2018 22:27

We had this in our old flat with hookers living downstairs. I gave up answering the buzzer because they wouldn't believe they had the wrong flat. I moved in the end as I didn't like bumping into their punters when I was coming back late at night.

You could try the police but as far as I know, if there is only one lady working by herself from the flat and not street soliciting then it's legal (in England). It only becomes a brothel when it's two or more. The council etc may be a better bet first...

Belindabauer · 26/08/2018 22:30

Some good advice here.
I think if it's drug dealing the visitors will only stay for 5 minutes.
Could you put a note through her door telling her to make sure her visitors press the correct buzzer. Tell her if you are woken again you are going to ring the police.

kaytee87 · 26/08/2018 22:30

Just report to police and landlord. If there's a reasonable explanation then she can explain to them.
