Any suggestions?

Not rude ones Grin DH and I got quite into Scrabble when I was pregnant and now we have baby DD2 our social life has took a nose dive. I know he mentioned playing Monopoly a lot as a kid too, just after some ideas.

If you like Scrabble, you might enjoy Qwordie - it's like trivia scrabble.

Kill Doctor Lucky and Munchkin are favourites here and work well with a pair or larger. Red Dragon Inn is great fun though might be a bit awkward with only two.

If you can, try to see if there is a game cafe near you so you try anything out beforehand, especially with how pricey board games can be.

Ticket to Ride
Carcassonne

If you like them Catan.

SneakyGremlins · 26/08/2018 18:04

Betrayal of The House On The Hill or something like that?

LadyPenelopeCantDance · 26/08/2018 18:05

Not a board game but if you like Scrabble you might like Bananagrams. Its a similar idea to Scrabble but with no board so is a faster pace.

SpoonBlender · 26/08/2018 18:29

Flash Point. It's a co-op two (to six) player game where you try and rescue people from a burning building.

Modern board games are an amazing joy. This is an excellent place to start.

Have a lookie through boardgamegeek.com/browse/boardgame (they're ordered by review rating) and see what's out there.

DeusEx · 26/08/2018 18:31

Opinionated I came to say exactly the same - Carcassone and Ticket to Ride are both brilliant!

user1498549192 · 26/08/2018 18:32

Code names is great; there's a Duet version for just two players.

kesstrel · 26/08/2018 18:34

Boggle and Upwords are both good if you like word-based games. Guillotine is fun. There are also "cooperative" games like Pandemic, where all the players are a team playing against the board, so you end up doing a lot of discussion and joint decision making - an interesting variant on the standard approach,

AllAtHome · 26/08/2018 18:35

Boku's a good one of skill to grab out and put away easily.

Card games.

Princessgenie · 26/08/2018 18:36

Camel Up
Takenoko

Both good x

Brandnewstart · 26/08/2018 19:20

Qwirkle

PhyllisWig · 26/08/2018 19:25

Loads of the above especially camel up and ticket to ride.

Forbidden island is a collaborative game which we've actually managed to win (unlike pandemic....). Also Harbour is oddly fun and very compact!

myrtleWilson · 26/08/2018 19:31

pandemic
Ticket to Ride
Love Letters
Seven Wonders
Condottiere
Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective
Dominion
Fog of Love (although I've not yet played this one)

imsorryiasked · 26/08/2018 19:34

We have quite a lot of the ones mentioned above but have also just got Jaipur which is for two players and is quick to learn and play.

HugeAckmansWife · 26/08/2018 19:46

Pandemic. Its a cooperative rather than competitive one where you work to beat the spread of disease. Very addictive.

HugeAckmansWife · 26/08/2018 19:47

phyliswig we kept losing til we realised you only have to cure not eradicate the diseases to win. That helped a lot!

myrtleWilson · 26/08/2018 19:50

Phylis - don't progress to Pandemic Legacy - its impossible or we are really rubbish

Heratnumber7 · 26/08/2018 20:01

DH and I spend hours playing cribbage when we go camping.

Nettletheelf · 26/08/2018 20:02

Seconding Seven Wonders, Carcassonne and Ticket to Ride, and throwing Power Grid (the king of board games) into the mix.

Blankiefan · 26/08/2018 20:04

Backgammon is fab.

ohgodnotyouagain · 26/08/2018 22:48

Some great suggestions here, thank you all!!

The Really Nasty Horse Race Game is good fun. It's about being cunning and devious!!

Catinthecorner · 27/08/2018 09:31

Exploding kittens! It’s from the person behind The Oatmeal.
