Anyone with a huge baby?

DD (13 months) is absolutely huge - on the 98th centile - and is a velcro baby. For the last 3 months, my fingers have been increasingly painful. It started as pins and needles, then was numb for a while, and now is a tingling, burning pain. It's always there, but gets a bit better at night after laying down for a while. Things like buttons, plaiting DD1's hair, using a knife and fork, etc, really hurt.

The neurologist has said there's no obvious neurological cause. I had a brain MRI but it was clear, and the nerve conduction study was normal, so it's not MS or carpel tunnel syndrome.

I can't help thinking that this must be linked to carrying DD around. It just seems too much of a coincidence otherwise. Has anyone else experienced something similar? And did it go away once your DC started walking independently for a greater proportion of the time? DD is just starting to walk, so if that were it, there might be light at the end of the tunnel.

Thanks very much in advance - I'm a bit desperate.

I didn't get what you described, but I know my knees took a battering with constantly standing up and kneeling down while holding my colossal baby. Hope someone else is more help!

I got a bad back with my DD- not through carrying her but through pushing a dodgy pram for miles. I would get pins and needles in my arms and across my back. Made worse when holding her. It did go away when I held her less as she walked more and my injury healed in time. I still get pins and needles if my injury flares up. I now have a 3 month 98th percentile baby and can feel things flaring up. I’m looking about for a decent carrier in the hope it helps.

Speaking to a physio it’s nerve irritation due to very very tense muscles. The nerve conduction isn’t be affected. Might be worth trying seeing a physio or a chiropractor if you’ve had no luck else where. I hope things improve for you soon.

I had painful fingers before my coeliac disease was diagnosed

Ah, ReadySet that's really interesting. My back is fine at the moment, but was awful when all this first started. Maybe I should speak to a physio in case there's anything they can see that would help.

Low B12 causes pins and needles.
Nerve conduction studies are not definitive for carpal tunnel, I had my surgery from one of the UKs top hand surgeons who doesn't bother with them as there are a lot of false negatives. He looks at the size of the muscle in your hand beneath your thumb and the skin on your middle finger ( soft skin no calluses indicates carpal tunnel).
