New Year's Eve - what would you pay?

DH and I run a little monthly supper club at home, been doing it 6 months and its starting to get rather popular. We only have 8 places and are now starting to sell out about about 3 weeks in advance.

We live in the middle of nowhere, so not much competition and have 5 * food hygiene certificate. We currently charge £35 ph, that's aperitif/canapes, soup and soda bread, starter, main course, dessert, coffee and truffles. Everything is handmade by us and ingredients are locally sourced. Because we are not licenced, guests bring their own wine, we provide glasswear and there's no corkage charge.

Now, we were thinking of having a New Years Eve celebration, because we don't usually do much, the evenings are rather convivial anyway and it would help boost the coffers after a family Christmas.

There is a nice pub with rooms that people could walk to (or I could drive them) and perhaps they could even come back for a full English in the morning.

We both love doing it but it is a huge amount of work and it also impacts on our DC's so I would like to charge accordingly. And our reputation locally is getting rather good. There is also a cost benefit to guests that they won't have to pay inflated alcohol prices. They will obviously stay till after Big Ben so it will be quite a long evening for us.

My main issue is that I have such an overwhelming fear of looking like a massive CF, I am liable to sell myself short, just to be polite.

So, if it's the sort of thing you might like, how much do you think it would reasonable to pay?

I’d happily pay £100 for this for NYE. That’s what a lot of (Glasgow) city centre restaurants charge, and that’s before drink. NYE (Hogmanay) has a higher premium than Christmas Day.

Your house looks gorgeous and it sounds like you’re offering a lovely intimate experience. I think about £60-65 for your first year. I live in the midlands and I wouldn’t think that unreasonable for what you are offering on NYE.

I think it looks and sounds lovely and I'd happily pay £75 per head and definitely come if only I lived near enough (I'm in Scotland)

Agree with the poster above about Glasgow charging £100 per head. It can be £35-45 just for a ticket to get into some places before you buy anything to eat or drink.

We are aware that the table is cosy to say the least, we have been thinking whether we could get something to fit over the top of it to allow for more seating.

The dinner went really well on Saturday night - the family seemed very happy, particularly the sticky toffee puddings! Would love to do that more.

The new business cards are here...so perhaps it's time to expand! Will start thinking about publicising New Year too.

Do you know the landlord / lady of the pub well? Is it worth talking to them to see if you could offer a dinner, bed, and breakfast package?

What about getting 2 trestle tables going long ways and seating 4/5 on each side?

We do that for bigger parties. Cover with lovely linen and keep your chairs. Often you can hire them for a small donation from your village/church hall?

We have a lounge adjacent to the dining room, down a few steps and with a dual log burner connecting them. That could be a place for more tables. Exciting thoughts.

I want to come! How can I find out more?

APermanentlyExhaustedPigeon · 02/09/2018 23:07

Well it all sounds amazing. We’re in Dorset too, and have toyed with the idea of eating out for NYE. All the hotels are charging between £75-£100 a head so £50ish very reasonable! Please can you PM me your details? Smile

VeryFoolishFay · 03/09/2018 00:06

I have PM'd x 2!
