Help. Could the seatbelt have done this to my new top?

I bought a lovely Joules tunic from EBay, new with tags. It seemed perfect.
I wore it once and noticed loads of white marks. It's ruined. They didn't wash out.
I changed into the top and went straight to the car. The marks were there when I arrived so not sure what else it could be.

Any ideas on how to fix it?

I'll add a photo shortly.

Thanks

This is around the tummy area.

I'm really disappointed. I normally can't afford Joules and was delighted to get a new top at a price I could afford. I had hoped it would be great quality.
I'm fairly sure there is nothing I can do. If I had bought it from Joules I would return it. Sad

It looks like it's been washed and the powder hasn't washed out properly - have you tried washing it?

I can't see how a seatbelt could have done that

Pinkkahori · 26/08/2018 15:32

It not washing powder. It was new with tags, no visible marks and the marks appeared when I was wearing it.
I washed it and they didn't come off at all.
In fact it actually looks a bit worse now.

Yes, looks like washing powder or deodourant marks. It has probably been worn and tags added.

Looks like deodorant marks to me.

Pinkkahori · 26/08/2018 15:35

I think it was caused by the seat belt rubbing. Just noticed this where the seatbelt fastens.

Have you checked if there’s anything on the seatbelt that could have rubbed off into it?

ChanandlerBongsNeighbour · 26/08/2018 15:37

Yes the shape and placing of the marks certainly looks like they would match where a seatbelt would rub. You could try returning it as faulty? Can't be very high quality of the colours can move so much with what could be deemed as everyday friction?

Pinkkahori · 26/08/2018 15:38

Yes. Checked seat belt and it's fine. Was wearing a similar top earlier that day and no marks on it all.

BlackStoneCherie · 26/08/2018 15:42

It's possible it is the car seat belt. If the marks match where it touch your top whilst wearing it in the car, then it's probably rubbed the dye away from the fabric.
You can get padded sleeves that fit over the seat belt to help stop this happening.

Pinkkahori · 26/08/2018 15:44

I tried it on and got in the car - the marks are a perfect match. Sad
£25 wasted.

It looks like deodorant marks. Or sweat when dh comes home, Sometimes the T-shirt's come up with washing looking marks but arent? Weird isn't it.

Toomuchgoingon · 27/08/2018 18:35

I had exactly the same problem and felt equally gutted especially as it was a flattering top for a change. It's like the material got stretched. I used a black Sharpie on the stretched bit and I can just about get away with it. I know it's there but it's not obvious to everyone else

Did you consider returning yours Toomuch?

I had a joules tunic that did this! Looked lovely when I tried it on, but bobbled almost instantly and faded where it rubbed. I still wear mine to be honest, but to work (messy art classroom) Disappointing as I bought is as 'best'. I feel your pain OP

Pinkkahori · 27/08/2018 19:16

It seems to be a common problem with Joules then. I have similar tunics from White Stuff and elsewhere and never had this problem.

I don't wear makeup other than on nights out. Wasn't wearing any when I wore the top or tried it on.
It definitely looks like the fibres have been rubbed rather than stained.

OP posts:
gimeallthecake · 28/08/2018 02:18

Have you tried a cold wash to get the stains out?
