We have just come on holiday to Looe, Cornwall for the week.

Any recommendations of what to do whilst here or anything we must do/see?

Looe is lovely. Polperro is about ten minutes down the road from there and is beautiful. Lots of shops, galleries, ice cream and pastie places, beautiful scenery

Do you have kids with you? That will affect suggestions Grin

Either way, you’re about 30 mins from the Eden project, which is well worth a visit.

Lovely walks to Lansallos beach and Lantic bay, which are near by, although the climb up and down to Lantic bay is quite steep, but totally worth it. We also did the glass bottom boat trip from Looe, didn’t see much through the glass but lots of seals bobbing around the island.

Another vote for polperro if your in looe it's not far. There's also a lovely beach bar, good food not crazy expensive on perranporth beach.

If you’re National Trust members go to Lanhydrock. The house is amazing, and there are walking and cycling trails in the grounds.

Go to Lelant Saltings and take the train to St Ives. You'll need to give yourselves a full day there, there's plenty to do.

The sardine factory in looe is delicious for food. The kids enjoyed pizza at mama j’s.

We also did the boatzer glass bottom boat round Looe Island which was good.

The Lost Gardens of Heligan and a day in st ives are both things we enjoyed.

We have always loved this place

A bit of a drive but if you have younger ones who enjoy trains it will go down well.

Findingdotty · 26/08/2018 21:33

Oh and the monkey sanctuary is fantastic. That is in Looe.

We did Dartmoor zoo too but again that is a bit of a journey but we thought it was worth it.

Findingdotty · 26/08/2018 21:35

This smaller place is nearer to Looe and a good afternoon out. www.porfell.co.uk

How old is the child? Lappa Valley and Dairyland are good options for under 5s. If a bit older, cycle the Camel Trail (nice and flat). Padstow for lunch then get the boat across to Rock for a walk along the beac. Fowey is pretty for a wander around and Charlestown to see the ships. Polzeath for some surfing / body boarding!

This is very timely for me as we're off to Cornwall (staying near Newquay) with 3.5 year old and 10 month old in a couple of weeks. Thanks for posting OP!

surroundedbyblondes · 27/08/2018 05:16

Our family loved the monkey sanctuary. I would also recommend a walk on the moor with a pub lunch somewhere. Our kids were delighted to see animals just out free like that. We wandered around near the Cheesewring I think it"s called.
Good tip for food is the Hayloft pub just outside of Looe.

If you want to venture further North we loved Bude. Fifteen on the beach at Newquay was also a huge hit for us.

Some of the recommendations are a significant drive away from Looe (St Ives, Porthcurno). The National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth is very good for a rainy day. The beaches of Whitsand Bay are stunning (few miles East of Looe) if you can manage steepish paths from the cliff tops. That's a beautiful bit of coastline & the harbour villages of Cawsand & Kingsand are very pretty, Antony House (NT property) is nearby too. Mount Edgecumbe is a stately home that is set in acres of gardens/parkland & is good for a visit, again, east of Looe. Coethele House is an NT property which is great to visit too.
Enjoy, it's a beautiful area & much overlooked compared to other parts of Cornwall.

BlueBrush · 27/08/2018 08:09

We loved the Lost Gardens of Heligan

Peachbubble · 27/08/2018 08:22

These might be a bit of a trek from Looe, as over an hour away, but we liked Trebah Gardens near Falmouth, the seal sanctuary at Gweek and Healeys Cyder Farm near Truro.
