I live in the uk and always have done (hopefully not always will!) But one thing that gets my geek interest at airports is wondering what's in people's suitcases!
What do you buy when you come home to the uk that you cant get at home abroad? And what country do you live in (if you like)?

When my friend visits, she takes back Stornaway black pudding & potato scones Grin

In Germany here and when back in the UK we stock up on clothes (still a bit C&A 1980’s here!), pears soap, Aussie shampoo, chocolate digestives, squash, instant coffee.
And if we’re travelling in the car with a cool box it’s sausages, bacon and cheddar!

woodfires · 26/08/2018 19:22

Chocolate, Percy pigs. Lots of books. Clothes for kids. Medicines. Boots stuff. Kids shoes. Some clothes and shoes for me. Magazines. Baked beans, tea bags. We had two extra suitcases but it will last most of the year. Doctor who stuff, cheap Disney infinity figures from home bargains. Some if gets bought because it is cheaper, some because it is better quality, some because it reminds us of home and some of it you just can't get at all.

Not much these days as I live in Italy and we mainly eat Italian. Marmite, tea bags, curry spices and stationery for the kids which is a lot cheaper here.

tillytoodles1 · 26/08/2018 19:28

My brother in the US, teabags and chocolate biscuits. My brother in Turkey, Cheddar cheese.

Kewqueue · 26/08/2018 19:29

Oh and currants and suet for Christmas baking.

Candyflip · 26/08/2018 20:16

When I first moved to the US almost two decades ago, I used to bring back so much, but most things are available here now anyway. My early cases were filled with marmite, Xmas crackers, cadbury’s chocolate, even champagne (used to be ridiculously expensive in US) I bring very little back compared to those days, still marmite (as only available in tiny jars) zoflora (I am in that cult, 🙄) but very little chocolate since it is shit now, and no Ribera anymore either as that is also shit!

Loads of stuff from IKEA and literally everything and anything from Home Bargains! Also got a few bits of school uniform in Tesco last time.

Justkeeprollingalong · 26/08/2018 20:35

Cornwall here, from Newcastle;
Scottie cakes
Pease pudding
Dandelion and Burdock

PerfectlyPosed · 26/08/2018 20:36

My dad lives in Turkey and takes bacon!

Justkeeprollingalong · 26/08/2018 20:39

Stottie not Scottie. Bliddy autocorrect!

PrimeraVez · 26/08/2018 21:07

Calpol! Lots of it
Birthday cards
Clothes and shoes for kids also in a few sizes up
Toddler snacks and fruit pouches
Percy pigs
Live in UAE

Same on all of the above!

Will also add stuff from the house bought in the supermarket - this year it was a big pitcher and serving bowl. Last year it was soap dispensers and toothbrush holders. The choice is so much wider back home in the UK and so much cheaper.

Mumshotel · 26/08/2018 21:09

I take my friends in France strong Cheddar, Yorkshire tea and cadburys chocolate

Mumshotel · 26/08/2018 21:10

Cant you get Dandelion and Burdock in Cornwall? Surely you can. Not even the ones in the glass bottles from hipster places fentimans??? Not even in Tesco??

user1486076969 · 26/08/2018 21:11

Cheddar cheeseGrin

DeliveredByKiki · 26/08/2018 21:12

We’re from the U.K., live in the us and when luggage allows we bring back:
Marmite
Dairy milk
Kinder eggs (I know they’re banned - stick it to the man)
Salt and vinegar squares
Mini cheddars
Percy pigs
Sets of cards from paper chase/M&S
Random things like sumac, mustard, cashew butter as it’s much cheaper in the U.K.
Rich tea biscuits
Soreen
Tea
Baked beans
M&S underwear
Next clothes for the children
Bread
Bombay mix
Pimms

And lunch from Pret to eat on the plane

Mumshotel · 26/08/2018 21:12

When i lived abroad I always brought toiletries back with me as so much cheaper and better quality, but it depends where you are I suppose

Mumshotel · 26/08/2018 21:16

Justkeeprollingalong if you have a Waitrose or Morrisons nearby they both stock Fentimans Dandelion and Burdock. I had to check ha.

mosessupposes · 26/08/2018 21:17

France.
I mostly bring books, especially second hand children's ones. Teabags. Some of my purchases are just because I have more time in the UK, so last time I also bought a bird table.

feellikeanalien · 26/08/2018 21:18

We used to live in Portugal and many years ago I remember taking two sets of IKEA full length curtains and a chandelier type ceiling light. That was obviously in the days when they weren't so strict on baggage limits!

I also used to take back Yorkshire teabags, Colmans mustard, indigestion tablets, sausages and haggis.

Then they opened Iceland in Portugal!!!!!

Troels · 26/08/2018 21:53

I used to tke back (too the US)
Teabags,
Chocolate,
Hobnobs
Penguin biscuits,
Orange Clubs
Ribena
Orange squash
Gravy granuals
Instant Curry sauce packets
Chocoolate eclair sweets
Fruit pastilles
Comics for the kids.
Plus more. I used to buy extra baggage allowance.

redexpat · 26/08/2018 22:13

Primarni bras
Blackcurrant cold flu sachets
Childrens books
Sometimes school type shoes
Mini cheddars
Cider
Occasional stuff from lakeland.
Tamarind paste.
Bubble bath.
Baby powder.

redexpat · 26/08/2018 22:14

Take all that to denmark

Strokethefurrywall · 26/08/2018 22:22

Caribbean...

  • M&S school shoes/socks
  • M&S mini bites/flapjacks etc
  • everything Cadbury (the Willy winks stuff is amazing...)
  • I used to stick up on next stuff for the kids but it's utter white now so don't bother

There's not much I can't get here now but I eat loads when I'm in the UK, so stuff my face with proper Chinese food, roast dinners, Strada risotto and GBK burgers.
