Stopping Sertraline

Posting for traffic.

I have been on 50mg sertraline for a year, after experiencing PND after the birth of my second child.
I have felt very happy and stable for most of that 12 months, and with the support of my GP, have decided to stop taking it.

I tapered to 25mg for three weeks without incident, and have now stopped entirely for a week. Dropping from 25mg to nothing has been tough, and I guess I'm just looking for reassurance from people in the know.

I have had periods of anxiety over the last few days, some dizziness and some 'blank' period where I have been forgetful or a bit confused. Does this all sound like fairly normal withdrawal? I haven't actually felt low at all, but definitely anxious at times 😖

I’ve done it. It’s never easy stopping SSRIs. Are you literally dropping from 25mg to nothing? I wouldn’t advise that. I would suggest halving the tablets if possible and then taking half daily for a week and then half alternate days. If you can’t halve them, at least consider 25mg every other day.

I know with citalopram you can get it in liquid form instead which means you can drop the dose more gradually which is better for some people.

Thankyou faith. I tried 25mg every other day initially, but was under the impression that it wouldn't help much, as sertraline has quite a short half life. I could try quartering and start taking 12.5mg from tomorrow if you think that would help?
Now that I've done a week of nothing I'm wondering if I should just ride it out?
