Morrisons

So today I took the kids to class and it was next door to a large morrisons supermarkets, I've never been in Morrisons for years but a woman in work always says how cheap it is, so popped in for my weekly shop!
My normal £80 tesco shop was £120 wtf!!
Then they had a cheek to give me voucher for £10 off if i spend £130 next week! I don't even spend that at Xmas!
Is Morrisons the new Waitrose????

Waitrose with only half the tills open perhaps.

dementedpixie · 25/08/2018 16:40

I bet you picked up things that you wouldn't normally have bought from Tesco. I don't believe that you bought exactly the same and nothing extra.

Jestem · 25/08/2018 16:45

I don't know how you managed that, I find Morrison's significantly cheaper!

I found the opposite. I used to spend £120 weekly in Tesco. Moved to Morrisons and I rarely spend over £80.

Redyoyo · 25/08/2018 16:57

I bought 6 dinners and packed lunch stuff for the kids, the same amount of biscuits and snacks i normally buy. There was no cleaning stuff or toiletries, i got a £1.50 candle and a bunch of sunflowers reduced to 75p that i wouldn't normally buy.
I think because you can scan as you shop at tesco you are more aware of what you are buying.

I have found Morrison's much, much cheaper than Tesco's. However, I only buy vegetables, fruit and meat usually - not pre-made meals. Tesco's do usually have the deals on pre-made meals so perhaps that is why they are cheaper there?

hugoagogo · 25/08/2018 17:13

I always find morrisons more expensive, I think it could be because of the sorts of things I buy.
There offers always seem to be on junky stuff.
They do nice undies though. Grin

Redyoyo · 25/08/2018 17:42

No ready meals mostly veg, meat and bakery stuff. Their fish is very expensive £4 for 2 medium slice of basa, in tesco it would be about £1.80.
Hopefully its better quality.

I find Morrisons more expensive too. Went in last week as was passing for a few bits. 1 meal of 2 cod fillets, parsely sauce (£1), a few snacky bits for the dcs, topped the biscuit cupboard up, jar of coffee, some dilute, a multi pack of crisps, £45.

DH loves it. But I find M and S cheaper. We used to do a shop on saturday morning at Morrisons. Would be meal for 4 saturday, sandwhich stuff, picky bits for the weekend, stuff for a sunday roast, maybe a bottle of wine or some beers. Could easily be £80, if not more.

Started going to M and S on a friday morning instead. Never more than £60, less if 2 dine in for a tenner on, which incidentally has gone rubbish at our local since they changed it to 2 for £12.

No rotisserie chicken, no vegetarian options, and no nice pies.

wonkylegs · 25/08/2018 18:04

We shopped for years at Tesco and then moved to a place with Morrison's or Sainsbury's
Morrisons isn't really really cheap but it's cheaper than Tesco's and definitely cheaper than Sainsbury's but it really depends on what you buy.
I buy a lot of fruit, veg, meat and stuff to cook from scratch. If I have a busy week and have to buy convenience food - pie, Indian bits, Kiev's etc it starts getting more expensive quite quick.
I find their fruit, veg, meat & bread better quality than Sainsbury's but less choice for stuff like olive oil, dressings, herbs
I also find their stores a bit bit and miss - our local one is good (NE) but the one near my brothers house is shit (SW)

Imchangingmyname · 25/08/2018 18:26

This is why I've just swapped to Aldi. Easily spending £100 in Morrisons (family of 5) and still having to top up quite a bit during the week

Redyoyo · 25/08/2018 18:32

I can't handle the Aldi checkout i panic!

marvelousways · 25/08/2018 18:37

I think Morrisons has got much more expensive recently. I have swapped to Aldi now. Got a massive trolley of shopping at Aldi last week, full shop for a week for large family, for £115 inlcuding cleaning stuff. Same things I had sitting in my online morrison's trolley totally over £200 Shock

prettygreywalls · 25/08/2018 18:42

I quite like some of the freshly baked hot pies in Morrison's but apart from that I view it as the equivalent of Asda but with very rude staff

HolyMountain · 25/08/2018 18:44

I’ve become happy at Aldi’s check out. I always wait behind someone with a lot of stuff, gives me time to chuck mine on in some kind of order.

Then I pile the bread, eggs and easily damaged stuff one end and everything else just gets chucked on wherever.

I like Tesco, haven been been Morrison’s in years.

HolyMountain · 25/08/2018 18:45

*haven't been to Hmm

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 25/08/2018 18:47

Our Morrisons is in need of an overhaul. Funnily enough they 'refurbed' it not long ago but don't seem to have got the stock levels right since. The shelves are always empty (fresh/chilled/frozen/store cupboard you name it). The fridges are leaky and smelly Hmm

I shop there out of habit and convenience as it's very local and every other supermarket is a trek across town.

I wish they'd introduce some new lines in ours. It's pretty big but they've filled it with clothes and housewares that aren't that popular (Sainsbury's does it better). I'd prefer some food inspiration - I'm convinced there's a better selection in other Morrisons I've been in Grin

I think I need to shop somewhere else for a while! Aldi and Waitrose are my faves but neither are very close.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 25/08/2018 18:49

*and the prices have definitely gone up significantly in the last 12-18 months. Probably Brexit driven but some basic lines are 50% dearer which seems a bit extreme.

Needsleepneedsleep · 25/08/2018 18:49

Not a fan of Morrisons. Poor quality fruit and veg, shelves often empty, fridges and freezers leaking onto shop floor, often more expensive than other supermarkets including Waitrose, rude staff.

fantasmasgoria1 · 25/08/2018 18:59

I have always found Morrison’s to be expensive and the food quality not to be that great tbh!

Teakind · 25/08/2018 20:03

I don’t think Morrison’s is expensive but their stock management is terrible. It’s my nearest supermarket but I end up doing an online shop with Sainsbury’s as I know there will be basics I can’t get if I go there.

Their peri peri olives and fresh fish pie are very nice though!
