Tivoli Gardens - anyone been?

Hello,

We are off to Copenhagen for a short break and I’d be interested to know of any tips for the Tivoli Gardens. I’ve got two teenagers, one likes theme parks a lot but the other doesn’t like rides that are too extreme or that turn you upside down. He does like water rides though!

I’ve heard that’s it’s better value to buy the wrist band that lets you go on everything but would be grateful for any other info or advice.

Thank you!

Yes I think it is worth getting the unlimited ride wristband.
To experience the WOW effect enter Tivoli Gardens from the Main Entrance on Vesterbrogade rather than the Central Station entrance on Bernstorffsgade.
I would definitely recommend staying until nightfall and experiencing the nightly Illumination Show on the bridge across the lake. Stand next to the fence facing the clock tower (not facing the boat ride) and get there early to guarantee a good view.
There are lockers available to hire at the park if you do not wish to carry extra belongings around with you all day. This is handy for storing jackets or coats which you will need if you stay until the light show.

Everything is very expensive in Copenhagen but I think if you're going on several rides the wristband is the way to go. We loved Tivoli, even me who hates theme parks.
There are great places for lunch too. We went to somewhere with a name like Griffon and loved it.

I agree with RiceKrispie. Consider getting Copenhagen cards. These give you free public transport, some canal trios and free entry into many attractions including Tivoli Gardens (but no rides), so you could go for a look at the park first. It’s not huge - it doesn’t compare to say Alton Towers. There are plenty of smaller rides - we went with DC age 5 and 8. We enjoyed the evening shows in the park too.

I went there as a teenager 30 years ago and still have very fond memories of it. Don't know what it is like now, but it was a wonderful day out then.
