Gym

I was all over the gym before summer - pt sessions and spin - but I’ve just cancelled another 9am class and think I should just stop pretending I’ll ever return. I lost no weight whilst working out so don’t look any worse for it. Any tips to either help me give up guilt free or to get my arse off the sofa?

One of the benefits (and there aren't many) of being an adult is that you can decide for yourself how you want to spend your own free time. If you don't enjoy the gym, don't go - simples 😉.
However, if you do want to exercise, look for an activity that you enjoy and do that. Try to figure out whether you like doing things with other people, in which case you might enjoy exercise classes, or whether you prefer t be solitary, in which case you might enjoy running. I like both. I do classes, pt and running.

Maybe you don't like exercise at all. If that's it, take up knitting or jigsaws, whatever you fancy. Life is way too short to spend precious time on something else that you don't want to do.

I do want to exercise - I’ve run marathons before, I’ve swam, I’ve boxed, I’ve climbed, yoga, fencing - I’ve tried everything. I liked lifting weights but it still feels like a chore and staying still more appealing.

I go to classes- Zumba, yoga, Pilates, HIIT, dance. I like the social element because we go for a coffee afterwards and everyone is friendly and supportive. I like the instructors too. I would struggle with so,itary exercise like the gym, because I would find it difficult to get motivated on my own.

Perhaps I should keep trying. Give myself to the end of the year and quit if I don’t find something.

Maybe find an active hobby that you can do rather than go to the gym to exercise.
Possibilities are:
Getting an allotment
Taking dancing lessons
Learn to ride a horse
Join a walking group
Join a volunteer group to tidy up streets etc

It’s early so I can’t think of many more but I’m sure there are lots.

I always feel like this! For me though I do really need to loose weight and have been doing well. I had a bad few weeks over the summer of talking myself out of various gym classes and planned runs, but I decided on Monday that enough was enough and I gave myself a good talking to and have done much better this week (one spinning class, one run, and two body attack classes so far.)
I still normally have to MAKE myself go, but I have told myself at the moment it is non negotiable!! I do think it is hardest to get back in once you have got out of the habit. When I'm in the swing of it it feels better.
