Coming off ecitalopram to start prozac

I'm a bit wary as I've had problems with changing tablets before (duloxetine which gave me weird problems controlling facial movements which meant that I couldn't speak or swallow very well).

GP has said today she wants me to stop escitalopram (been on for 10 years) as its doing nothing, and start prozac instead on Monday night. Also quitting gabapentin at the same time.

I'm really worried as she's said I'm in for a bad week-10 days. I already feel bad enough with panic attacks and constant moderate to severe anxiety, and not sure how I cope if things get worse. Not sure what I do to solve things or control how I feel. I don't want to feel worse/more frightened than I already do :-( .

Husband has been on citalopram for 5years, it stopped working. Dr put him on Prozac alongside the citalopram, with a view to tapering off it once Prozac established....the withdrawal shouldn't be too bad (I believe, we'll see!). Could you ask about that approach?

I'll see what they say, see how this weekend goes. At present I'm hardly functioning at all beyond the basics and feel rotten :-( . Can't even lie still to sleep. Don't know how to fix it anymore.

Could the Dr give you some valium to help during the transition from one to the other?

Hello
I was on escotalopram for several years on and off but it stopped doing anything for me so my gp told me to stop it over a couple of weeks then a few days with nothing then start on the new tablets (seroxat which is paroxetine)
He told me it'd be a bad couple of weeks
It wasn't as bad as I thought tbh. Yes, I had withdrawal headaches and nausea but nothing too bad. I also felt a bit tearful but I kept thinking 'there's an end to this' and that I was going through it for a good reason
The seroxat started working fast and I felt like myself really soon after starting it
I hope your transition onto new tablets is ok and not too bad xxx
