I am overweight, with a bit of an overhang. So far, so post-child normal, right?

It seems I have developed an athlete's foot-type fungal infection in my belly crease. Envy

I work in care.

This is so, so, SO common.

No one talks about it, but it happens. It's no biggie.

SleepWarrior · 24/08/2018 15:28

It's really common, don't worry. Under boobs is too. It can be cleared up easily too with an anti fungal cream.

Iwant2breakfree · 24/08/2018 15:28

How often do you wash? I use curash baby powder on my mum tum. Aso statted usuing fem fresh deodorant under it helps alot but i just get sweaty down there

Agree - very common, also under generously sized boobs.

TheQueenSnortsAvocados · 24/08/2018 15:42

Iwant Here comes the drip feed I'm afraid!

I've always showered every other day or so (my hair and skin hate daily showers, and I'm not prone to body odour). BUT, I've had some health problems lately which have led to less frequent showering, a lot of sitting still, and regular use of hot water bottles leading to being quite warm, if not sweaty. No great surprise I've succumbed to fungus.

I am reassured to know it is reasonably common.

You do need to showe daily to avoid these infections op tbh Flowers

Wolfiefan · 24/08/2018 15:46

You need to shower daily. If shower gels and soaps irritate your skin then change them. (I say that as someone with bloody awful eczema!) don't have the water too hot either.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 24/08/2018 15:49

I get this under my ample bosom, as does a friend of mine. The dreaded tit rot, we call it. Daily washing or showering, and I use talc on the offending area during the day and an anti fungal cream at night. That clears it up quickly.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 24/08/2018 15:50

Agree with showing daily. If you're unable to, wash the area with warm water and soap, pat dry with a clean towel and lay there lifting up the crease to let the air get to it. I used Dettol soap when I was starting to get infected after one of my sections and it healed really quickly.

TheQueenSnortsAvocados · 24/08/2018 15:50

I'm not sure daily showers are necessary year-round, but that's a subject that's always going to divide MN!

The water temp is interesting. Does it really make a difference? I've always had scaldingly hot baths and showers.

SoyDora · 24/08/2018 15:52

Showering daily may or may not be necessary (depending on who you ask Wink), but it is necessary in your particular situation to help prevent further infections.

picklemepopcorn · 24/08/2018 15:54

Try a cream like dermol for washing with and for applying between showers. I think it's helping me.

BlackStoneCherie · 24/08/2018 15:57

Try washing the area with soap and cool water. Pat dry with a towel, then using a hairdryer on cold setting blowdry the skin for a few minutes until all sensation of dampness has gone. Then add a little talc (I know talc is frowned upon but in certain circumstances it's useful).
Do this twice - three times a day. Also, try wearing cotton clothing that allows skin to breathe.

Wolfiefan · 24/08/2018 15:58

It certainly does for me. If I have the water too hot in a shower my skin dries right out. I avoid baths. (My skin is terrible.)

TomHardysNextWife · 24/08/2018 16:00

Medicated talc is your friend. I used to get terribly sore skin from mine and under my bust too, but since using this, I get little issue. Superdrug do a nice one for 99p and it smells fine - some can smell vile.

I know MN frowns on talc but it's a lifesaver for me. I also use medicated soap - cuticura or similar.

Synecdoche · 24/08/2018 16:20

I sometimes can't manage a shower or bath OP but find a good scrub with a flannel and a washing up bowl of water is better than nothing. Make sure you get everything bone dry afterwards as others have said. Hope you are feeling better soon 🌻

continuallychargingmyphone · 24/08/2018 16:33

I would definitely get an infection there if I didn’t shower daily. I’m size 12 but my tummy sticks out.

MrsMoastyToasty · 24/08/2018 16:37

Use some athletes foot powder after bathing on the affected area. Once it's cleared up then use regular talcum.

1tobleroneplease · 24/08/2018 16:38

I'm a nurse and daily showers are necessary especially if you have skin touching skin and absolutely when the weather is hot like it has been. I'm not sure water temperature has much to do with it, it sounds as though you have got sweaty and not cleaned and dried the area regularly enough which generally is the cause of that type of infection.
Once it's cleared as a preventative measure try putting talc on after washing and drying (I know talc is controversial but is a good way to keep the area dry if you're happy to use it.)

Proseccoagain · 24/08/2018 21:36

Yes, used to get that all along my C section scar, just use talc after a shower to dry it. I have the typical C section overhang! Also used to get anti-fungal cream from the doctor if it was really bad. Don't seem to be bothered with it much any more.

NellieBee · 25/08/2018 01:08

I shower at least every other day and use talc under my boobs. If I don't do both of these things, I get it under my boobs. It's horrendous! THE SMELL!

YerAuntFanny · 25/08/2018 01:20

I have also had this in the past plus I have eczema too!

I shower most days to keep patches clean, avoid hot water as it tightens my skin, I use an enjo body glove (basically a fancy facecloth :o) to wash, no toiletry products and pat dry (don't rub!). Gently rub in a little cocoa butter cream and pat dry again ensuring that creases are soft and dry to the touch.

Allgirlskidsanddogs · 25/08/2018 01:25

Cooler rather than hotter showers, daily. Dry very throughly. Cotton undies. Please don’t use talc, it blocks the pores and helps the fungal infection fester.

SadTomorrow · 25/08/2018 01:25

I got one in my armpits once. I was in student halls and the wall my bed was up against was damp and mouldy. It happens, don't worry about it.

Cantthinkofabloodyname · 25/08/2018 01:51

I get that occasionally as I have a rather large overhang from multiple c-sections. There has been some great advice on here & I agree that talc is a necessity
