Washing machine leaking foamy water!

Can a washing machine leak foamy water if you put too much powder in it?! Or overfill the drum?!
Came into the kitchen to find foamy water pooled at the bottom of the washing machine. It must have happened early in the cycle as it had 40 mins still to go. Cleaned it up and theres not been any since. There cant be much underneath either because surely it would have seeped out by now? Checked the draw and there doesnt seem to be any blockages. I cant think of anything else. Help! Any ideas?

If there was a lump of powder in the pipe it can cause a backflow.
DF think it's amusing that I break up the powder and get rid of all the lumps, but they've never had to clean a slippery kitchen floor.

Does it have a front flap at the bottom with a filter?

Fishandthechips · 24/08/2018 14:08

Oh god I hope not! I have no idea how to get blocks of detergent out of washing machine pipes!
TheQueef yes it does! Im probably going to sound really dim but what does it do? Ive often wondered.

I've had the foam explosion up through the detergent drawer when I've been doing the Mumsnet recommended 90 degree service wash with the machine empty.

I've also had a leak from the door and thought the seal might be leaking (it is over 10 years old) but when I opened the door, I found a great clump of my hair stuck between the door and the seal, so removed that and no further issues.

a lot of our appliances are 15-20 years old, but still work fine, so in a way it is disappointing when they appear to be broken but then are not.

Too much detergent, or bleach in the wash can cause foam to leak out.

So can a blockage as mentioned above, if you use powder. Or if you haven't run a hot cleaning cycle, or have gunk build up, or a foreign object in the machine or filter or outflow pipe.

Start by taking the little filter cover off and make sure you have a tray or something underneath to catch the water. Open the little pipe and let it all out, then feel around, give it a clean and put it back. Clean the drawer too.

Then run a cleaning cycle with no detergent.

If it happens again you may need to check the pipe is at the correct height for draining (look at the installation guide or online). Failing that you might have blockage in your pipe.

You might need to give it a wipe around the front of the drum, round the rubber bit where it gets mouldy. It can stop it from closing fully, causing a leak.

I agree with the above post it could be a blockage of soap powder, the water pressure in my house is not very high so sometimes all the soap doesn't get washed into the drum , I always pour a large jug of water into the draw at the same time as the water is pumped in .
Failing that is the rubber seal split / perished .
