Can I resign via email?

My manager has just email to ask me something about a return to work interview.

Coincidentally, I'm just about to resign.

Can I just email my resignation, in an email?

I can't resign via a Word document attachment since I don't have a Microsoft subscription.

I don't live close by the office to hand anything in

Yep. Email is fine!

Don't see why not. It is an accepted means of communication, a word document attachment of a "letter" wouldn't be any different.

Depending on how senior you are, I would say it’s fine.
I have accepted resignations by email, particularly from people who are signed off etc.

I'm. not senior at all, really.

I haven't seen them since July last year due to being off quite a lot with pregnancy related illness before even starting my leave.

I should imagine it'll be quite a relief to them, they can then offer the job permanently to whoever is covering for me

I have resigned via email before. Just made sure it was all formal language rather than informal like in a regular email. Stated at the end that I was also sending a hard copy letter in the post.

You can also download OpenOffice for free which has all the same features as Microsoft office and its file formats can be opened by Microsoft programs.
