Do they exist?
Ds does not like or do any "gaming", ie xbox/PlayStation/fortnite etc
He plays some games on his ipad but only things like colourswitch etc

Are there other boys his age still who are the same?
Just to clarify, this is not us stopping him, he is just not interested.

I’d love it if our kids were like that!

iloveredwine · 24/08/2018 11:18

god I wish! getting him to do anything else is like cutting his arm off!

cantfindamoniker · 24/08/2018 11:24

Sounds a much healthier attitude!

None so far then!
I am pleased about it in a way, but it means he often feels isolated

My 12 year old loves retro games and has a Nintendo for these which he does a couple of times a week, but doesn't do Fortnite or any of the other stuff that lots of kids are into.

He reads a lot, likes to take apart old electrical stuff, we play board games and makes things with Fimo. Am sure things will change in time, but for now he's happy as he is. Older DS loves the Xbox for Fortnite and driving games.

Slightly younger (10 - about to start Year 6) but I don't see it changing in the next 2 years TBH. He just has no interest! Pretty much all the boys in his class are obsessed -he was invited to a party last year by one of his few male friends and it was just 6 boys all playing FIFA! He hated it! Part of me wants to encourage it in a way so that he can be part of the gang, but I also love that he is still very creative and imaginative in his playing and would like that to last. He is VERY into technology, spends a lot of time on the computer making videos, PowerPoints, designing things on Sketch Up, but games? No. Like you I haven't actively discouraged it, but I think his mostly female friendships have played a part. Saddens me though that from Reception on the boys mostly went one way (football/super heroes/gaming) - the girls actually seem a lot less entrenched in their gender roles! But that's a whole different rant!

Another bump!

Mine. The xbox gets used about once a fortnight if that (Fifa), the Nintendo switch is gathering dust, it only tends to get used when friends come round. He's obsessed with football and motorsport and spends a lot of time watching these, either on tv or youtube, it's not a total screen-free life. Zero interest in Minecraft, Fortnite, Roblox etc.

My son who is 12 soon has no interest. Rather play with his Lego. Although for his birthday I am getting him an x box. So at least he might fit in a bit more at school.

Mine. I’m a bit fed up for him TBF. He either has to pretend to enjoy so as not to be ignored or be on his own. Drives me mad. He’s funny, intelligent and interesting, they just seem so dull, yet that seems to be the way things are. (Even if he did game, I wouldn’t be letting him stay up all night play8ng unsuitable games anyway).

CherryPavlova · 27/08/2018 09:42

Ours never really did but he’s 22 now. He had a PlayStation etc but it only ever really came out if a ‘gaming’ friend was around or for a group after supper doing driving games.
He used them occasionally at others houses but always thought lads who only did electronic games were dull and always a bit ‘wierd’. He still has his PlayStation and I know at his work they have a SuperMario league for when they are duty officer and confined over a weekend but otherwise no, not much at all.
