We're off to south Devon in a few weeks and looking for recommendations, we've been a couple of times before so have done the zoo, model village and caverns, just after a bit of inspiration for something new, kids are 7 & 2 but don't want just child based activities as it mostly adults

Lydford Gorge hasn't been mentioned yet and is very beautiful.
Also Wistmans wood at Two Bridges
Searching for bilberries on the moor (I have some bilberry gin doing it's thing in the kitchen cupboard)
Letterboxing on the moor

Whilst Sidmouth/Beer etc are an hour or so away, they're still worth considering. I grew up in Devon, so my frame of reference is being used to travelling a while for 'excursions' - we lived in the sticks and if we only had to go an hour for an outing, that was quite a positive!

Paperbird island in Salcombe is great for kids esp if the weather isn’t good

I grew up in Devon

So did I. I merely pointed out the distance so OP would be aware for planning.

East Devon is not the same as (and differently lovely to) South Devon.

Dartmouth Castle - English Heritage
Catch the ferry across the Dart and not far to:
Coleton Fishacre - National Trust - gorgeous Art Deco house with amazing gardens and access to South West coastal path
Greenway - also National Trust - Agatha Christie’s house - again, great garden

Have a meal at rockfish.

The road to slapton is still closed, but drive as far as you can and you will get to Strete gate. Carpark, little cafe, loos. Beautiful beach. Further up the beach is a nudist beach, but you’ll have miles of beach to yourself.

Coleton Fishacre is beautiful. Lovely garden. You will want to move in.
