Candle Addict Here - Suggestions Please!

I always have a (scented) candle burning in my living room and sometimes in my bedroom.

I have found that the only two kinds of candle that burn all the way down and are effective are Yankee Candles and actual church candles - though they aren't scented.

I've tried loads of others and they smell great but don't burn all the way down. They end up pooling with wax.

Does anyone know any cheaper alternatives to Yankee? It's costing me a fortune!

Get some therapy?

Oh, sorry, I missed out your final line....

Yankee are my favourite (though they keep re-hashing the same smells with a different seasonal name )

Look online , I got a Pink Sands (DD favourite) and a Vanilla Lime (mine) Large candles (usually £18-£20) for less than the price of a small (usually £8ish)

I got a 2L+1M set from QVC a while ago (but their P&P is ££)

You can go to TKMaxx or HomeSense but I couldn't distinguish the smell of a solitary candle over the whole lot together .

Oliver bonas candles throw a lot of scent but true grace are my favourite and last ages. You shouldn't have scented candles burning all the time though. It's not good for you.

Make your own! I made some at Christmas for family, and they were about a fiver each including the glasses so if you sourced your own containers it could be cheaper?

Other than that, I love Lily Flame candles.

GinBunnie - I had loads and loads of leftover wax last year and wanted to make them into a candle. I looked everywhere online for inspiration and ended up buying a 'mug warmer' to melt it down but it didn't work!

I second making your own - I melt the wax in a jug in my slow cooker to melt the wax. Amazon sell good soy wax, colouring waxes, wicks, even glass jars. I've never tried their scents, always buy from Holland & Barrett.

Village candles are good , very similar to Yankee

RubyLux · 28/08/2018 10:19

We always get Neom. Amazing smell and they burn well.

I’m in Australia and the Glasshouse candles are gorgeous - not sure if they’re available in the UK though

nomorespaghetti · 28/08/2018 13:19

@JustJoinedRightNow glasshouse candles are amazing, particularly tahaa, my favourite! Sadly not available in the UK. My brother lives in Australia and i always get him to bring me as many as he can when he visits!

JustJoinedRightNow · 28/08/2018 13:20

Spaghetti, get him to get you one of the xmas ones this year when they come out - divine!!

Malibucyprus · 28/08/2018 13:28

I love Village Candles, almost identical to Yankee, but better as they have 2 wicks, which means all of the wax burns.

Sugarplumfairy65 · 28/08/2018 13:37

Try some of your local makers. There are lots of good cottage industries producing good quality candles.
But, please don't believe all the hype about soy candles being better for the environment, they aren't, in fact I wouldn't have one in my house.
