To go for varifocals or not? Have you got them? Did you love/hate them?

Close vision deteriorating due to age. Distance vision not great, but steady prescription.

Very fed up with everything being blurry! In my job I need to switch between long distance, mid distance and close distance a fair bit.

Pros
Will be able to see!
Won't have to keep removing glasses.
Can try them for 3 months and swap them back for single vision if don't get along with them.

Cons
Won't have a full field of vision in focus as there's peripheral zones that aren't, apparently
Close vision will continue to deteriorate so new lenses will be needed again (and perhaps again) until it settles.
Will have to get used to them.

I got them over the summer. So nervous I got one normal pair and one varifocals. But I love them! I don't feel sick or dizzy. Took about 30 mins to get used to them.

I've had them for 12 years. The first two weeks was awful. I walked about like a baby deer and stairs were a bugger. After two weeks I was great!

Prior to having them and whilst wearing glasses i was having constant near misses with doors as i could not seen to judge them properly. This is apparently common when you need either varificals or two sets of glasses.

I would give it a go. It was the best thing I did.

I have had them for so many years that I really cannot remember whether they took any time to adjust to. Over the decade or so since I have had them they have improved no end.

I am very shortsighted and now I can get varifocal lenses that are very fine - rather than looking like milk-bottle bottoms!

I could not manage without mine. I once tried distance-only ones for driving and that was a joke - I could not read the dashboard dials. So without my varifocals I would not be able to drive.

One word of warning: you need to turn your head down when going downstairs in order to see the depth of the treads. If you just look down with your eyes you will be looking through the reading bit and might mis-judge the depth.
