40 cm is too shallow for a desk isn't it?

How much space do you need to be able to laptop, mouse & paper work easily?

At uni I had a desk that was essentially a shelf at the end of my bed, it worked! As long as you have enough for the depth of a laptop is doable...

My desk is 60cm, and that gives me room for a laptop, that is open and a separate keyboard. So I think 40 would be doable, as long as it was long enough. E.g. you need space for a mouse, coffee, plate, and papers and pens (if you are me) . I will go and measure up now re depth.

40cm isn't too bad (just got the tape measure out!) but it depends how wide it is too. If you've got no space to the side of your laptop/mouse for your paperwork, then it does seem a little small.

Nacreous · 23/08/2018 20:14

I think if it was wide, then it would be okay.

I use a second screen, so couldn’t deal with the lack of depth. But if I didn’t I think I could manage with 40cm, but I would want something a minimum of 100cm wide, ideally 120cm.

I could probably go to 120cm wide, but the chair could only go under about 70cm. Definitely don't have space for 60 deep, but could maybe go to 50.

@TrappedByATurtle I had this problem. Only had room for a shallow desk, but needed space for a computer screen and laptop.

In the end I got this and it is PERFECT - the lower desk bit pulls out to give a comfortable amount of space to work on, and then when it is pushed back into place it is very shallow.

I see the latest review says the shelf is not sturdy - I find the shelf very sturdy even when fully extended and am in fact typing from it now with no movement.

You have to assemble it a bit so many that review did a shoddy job!

If you could go to 52cm wide, this one is quite nice. I have it, and I put the computer monitor up on top, and the keyboard on the pull out bit. I don't know quite what you'd do with a laptop, but you could possibly put it up on top and a separate keyboard on the desk part too. Lots of storage room with the shelves.

Height might be your friend, lots of shelves going up - things like ladder desks, etc, and then you can get away with having less right in front of you perhaps.

I like that one! Good suggestions. I can't have anything higher than 101cm as it has to fit under a sloping ceiling.
