I was horrible to a colleague today, should I text to apologise?

Urgh I have a horrible guilty feeling in my stomach. I hadn't been having a good day, I'm tired and I wanted to be clear about the request I was making but it came out bitchy. Colleague definitely noticed (I could tell by her expression) but carried on.

We normally get on really well, should I quickly text and apologise? Or does that make a mountain out of a molehill?

Maybe send a light hearted text to say Sorry for being a bit grumpy earlier, tired, be early to bed tonight. Sometimes it is good to clear the air.

LookImAHooman · 23/08/2018 18:26

If you were the colleague who was a complete dick to me today because it suited their ego, I’d regain some respect for you if did.

I think an apology like Bottomofthesea's one sounds good.

restorativesugarytea · 23/08/2018 18:29

I've sent this, thank you. Added 'Friday tomorrow at least!' Hopefully that's lighthearted enough.

Feel dreadful.

Just do it. It'll be appreciated.

Danceintherain2018 · 23/08/2018 18:30

I would text and apologize as above.

optimusprimesmother · 23/08/2018 18:34

Oh I don’t know... my friend has a habit of sending these when she has been rude and it’s a bit wearing as I’m not her whipping boy. I take it though as I love her

Being arsey because your tired isn’t really an excuse.

If she text and said ‘sorry about before I was a dick’ I’d think that was better !

Buy her a coffee on the way in Brew

Atthebottomofthesea · 23/08/2018 18:35

It will be appreciated. Hope you get a good sleep.

Maybugger · 23/08/2018 18:35

Better face to face imo. Text may come across as trite?

Littlechocola · 23/08/2018 18:37

Do you normally text outside of work? If not then leave it until you are in work.

Justanotheruser01 · 23/08/2018 18:37

Yep you need coffee and cakes/splash out on lunch for her if you can afford it. And an apology .

Truthfully though I'm doubtful anybody can truly say they've never been a complete bitch x

restorativesugarytea · 23/08/2018 18:38

I can honestly promise that I have never spoken like that to a colleague before. I know it's not an excuse. I cringed as I heard myself.

I hope I haven't been trite.

I think a phone call would be much better. If you were rude face to face, the least you can do is call her.

CherryPavlova · 23/08/2018 18:40

I think it’s good but I also think you need to follow it up with a direct, to her face, apology tomorrow.

Violetroselily · 23/08/2018 19:39

A colleague was very rude to me at work once and I appreciated the apology text I received that evening. He also followed up with a face to face conversation, but there were a couple insignificant issues that needed airing.

Maybe just grab him/her for 5 minutes tomorrow and apologise face to face as well

BlueGenes · 23/08/2018 19:57

A colleague was rude to me today at work and I would definitely have appreciated a text! I'm not counting on it though.

Luckynumberthree · 23/08/2018 20:12

In the minority here but I'd hate it if someone from work text an apology in the evening. I'd find it intrusive. Work is work and outside I'm not paid to think any it.

^I agree. Using the excuse you were tired is crap and insulting

AnnieAnoniMoose · 23/08/2018 20:28

Ah well, there’s always one.

The vast majority of people would appreciate a text apolgising.

I’d definitely apologise again, in person, and if I knew her well enough I’d take in a little something I know she liked. Just a token gesture like a Terry’s Chocolate Egg or whatever.

However, you probably need to have a think about WHY you needed to make a particular effort to be clear about this. Was it unusually complicated? Are your colleagues not doing their jobs properly? What’s causing the stress?
