What are you and DC doing right now?

I've been off for the whole holidays. We went away for the first week, DD went camping for the second week, DS went with his dad for two weeks. We've had a couple of trips to the seaside and castles and things.

Today, DD is in bed watching Netflix, DS is in his room watching YouTube and I'm ummm smelling my new scents burning Blush.

Does anyone else feel neglectful and like you're being a shit mum and wasting their time if this is all that's happening?

Dd1 is out at the beach with her friend.
Dd2 is making dps birthday cake.
Ds is watching the greatest showman singalong. I’m just about to run myself a bath!

10yr DD and I are slumped quietly on the sofa, she’s reading a book by Eva Ibbotson, I’m reading the Internet, the dog is snoozing by my feet and all is right with the world.

I am having a sneaky break from working from home and browsing Mumsnet.

DS2 left this morning for a festival.

DS2 leaves this evening for a festival.

WHICH MEANS I HAVE 3 GLORIOUS DAYS OF THE HOUSE TO MYSELF.

I can't tell you how delighted I am! Grin

Today I am having a job day, I've washed and changed the beds, cleaned the kitchen and ironed. My DD is watching films and having a lazy day.....I think this is okay to do every now and then!! Grin

We’ve had friends who have 5 DC over. It’s been fun for mine (I have 4) but my house is trashed Sad I don’t mind usually but it really is chaos and these kids refuse to ever tidy up, they just shove everything under DDs bed or chuck it behind furniture. Means I’ll be spending tomorrow tidying and I just can’t be arsed.
DS1 is now in the shower, DS2, DS3 & DD are watching TV. I’m recovering with a cuppa and a book Grin

The only reason mine aren't fighting over their dads laptop about what to watch on Netflix is because the power supply has overheated and won't turn back on. They're actually playing with Lego quietly.
Damn, now I've said it, it won't last.
I've commandeered the big computer to play civilisation VI.
We've done 10 days camping on IoW, we've done a trip to London with their cousins and DH is taking them away camping for a few more days this weekend.
Hey, if you can't be a massive slob during the summer holidays then something is very wrong. I'm taking them school shoe shopping tomorrow, pity me.

DS age 6 is on his way back from the park where he's had a picnic with his best friends supervised by their Mum.

We've had the post-adoption support worker here discussing options to help him and us deal with some issues relating to emotional regulation and confidence.

All positive but I want to give him a big hug as he's such a lovely, caring, sweet little boy and I hate how his early life trauma can sometimes make him feel.

After that I fear there may be Pokemon watching where I will be told off for pronouncing it 'pock o man' not "poke a mon" #outoftouchmum

That sounds amazing human

We've had a busy day including soft play and then 4 more hours at home with a friend for DS who seemed to wind him up more than anything. Meant I had to intervene/get involved more than I anticipated.

Then we went to the shop and library and home now. In front of Paddington 2 while I sit here for a bit. Tea will need sorting soon sigh

Looking forward to the time that I don't have to host "play dates" @MrsJonesAndMe ! Won't be long and my youngest will be old enough to go and play out

I find them so much hassle, maybe it's just DS and his friends are all high maintenance? Grin

MrsJonesAndMe · 23/08/2018 19:07

Well mine is too. DD just disappears and I don't see them till they want food Wink

SisyphusDad · 23/08/2018 20:40

Me: sitting at the table on the patio drinking some very nice wine.
DS1: Not entirely sure
DS2: Experimenting with various ways of setting fire to various things (has now run out of matches and is trying the rotating sharp stick approach). Actually has now got bored and is eating his brother's birthday cake.

buttybuttybutthole · 23/08/2018 20:50

Spent the last hour brushing DDs hair because she has let it get in such a state over the holidays. So lovely to have finished and actually very bonding. Boy was it a mess!
