Pointless post but... same clothes consecutive days?

So this is a completely pointless post but...
The past couple of weeks I've been in jury duty which obviously means I've spent a lot of time with complete strangers. One was a lovely lady who, without fail, would wear a (nice) dress each day.
But she would wear the same one for two consecutive days. It got me thinking.

Do you wear clothes for two (or more) days in a row? I never do. BUT I will wear a top/jeans, then put back in wardrobe to wear again another day so although it's exactly the same - multiple wears of clothes- it's never consecutive.

I probably wouldn't have even noticed but each of her dresses were quite recognisable (ie bright red)

So, daft question is : do you wear clothes on consecutive days? Am I weird for never even considering it? Grin

I have started to. It's not like I care if people think I only own one thing. It's only trousers though. Might as well wear them 2 days running than have once worn trousers pile up waiting for a second wear. Only in collet weather and where they aren't soiled of course.

catkind · 22/08/2018 21:33

Why not consecutive? I don't like the idea of putting worn clothes back in wardrobe with clean ones, so anything that doesn't need washing stays out on a chair and gets worn again until it does need washing. Jeans several days in a row, tops one or two depending on weather/activities.

catkind · 22/08/2018 21:34

I also own two pairs of work trousers the same. They were the comfiest I've found for years, then 3 weeks later I spotted the same pair for £5 in the sale. So my colleagues prob think I never change my trousers.

Maybe she got lucky and it was her only option to wear that dress again?

Hallouminati · 22/08/2018 21:36

I wouldn't wear the same outfit in two consecutive days if I was going to be with the same people. A work colleague does and I always notice as she wears quite striking pieces but, like you, I often put clothes back in the wardrobe to wear a second time so I'm not sure why I find it a bit odd! I sometimes wear the same outfit all weekend but only if I don't have plans to go out and do anything much.

OublietteBravo · 22/08/2018 21:36

I try not to, but I’m not sure anyone would notice if I did. I certainly can’t remember exactly what my colleague was wearing today. I don’t think I’d notice if she wore exactly the same thing tomorrow.

SilkeOvesen · 22/08/2018 21:40

My colleague does sometimes. I was shocked(!), then the next second I was wondering why on earth I was shocked. She’s always clean and neat, it’s not like she smells!

I frequently wear the same pair of jeans 2 to 3 days in a row so there’s not really that much difference.

GrumpySausage · 22/08/2018 21:40

Like a pp I wouldn't if I was seeing the same people no. When at work I never wore the same top twice a week but I would wear trousers.

Currently on maternity leave so lucky if I even make it out of grubby top and trousers.

1 word - Moths.

TokyoSushi · 22/08/2018 21:42

Trousers/jeans, yes, definitely not anything else!

AwdBovril · 22/08/2018 21:44

Yes, we do that, we wash when things are dirty, or if they smell at all, not just because we've worn them. We don't have a tumble dryer, we have damp in the house already without adding to it without doing unnecessary washing, it's better for the environment, we're on a water meter, and clothes wear out quicker if they are washed very frequently. I'm sure there are other good reasons too.

RebootYourEngine · 22/08/2018 21:46

I wear the same trousers for a few days but never tops as I sometimes sweat and it feels yucky putting the top back on the next day.

I don't understand putting worn clothes next to clean clothes.

SheilaHammond · 22/08/2018 21:47

Not consecutive days, no. But wear things usually twice before a wash. So Mon/weds and then another outfit Tues/Thurs. Friday...depends on what's going on at work...it can often be a bit dress down.

ScattyCharly · 22/08/2018 21:49

Yes we will re wear but not hang worn stuff in the wardrobe between wears. Wardrobe is for clean stuff. Stuff waiting to get re worn hangs on hangers on a rack.

w4ytoomuch · 22/08/2018 21:54

Ha! Interesting to hear people's approach to consecutive clothing Grin

As an aside, each of her dresses were quite striking. Ie red maxi dress/Black floral mini etc.

I've never thought that hanging worn clothes next to clean clothes was an issue but I ..... drum roll please..... never pong. As far as I know, gulp.

Yes, I wear my (bright colored) dresses two days in a row. I have an office job so they don't get that dirty. Of course if I have been sweating or spilling food on it I would wash it before wearing again.

Why do some people put their worn clothing back in the closet? Are you ashamed to be seen wearing the same thing two days in a row? If so, why? Genuine question (I want to know what you think of me then Grin).

spugzbunny · 22/08/2018 21:55

I do every other day instead. Rather than put it back in the wardrobe, I have a hook on the outside of the wardrobe that I hang it on to air out and then it goes back on after skipping a day.

ILoveMyDressingGown · 22/08/2018 21:56

Yes if the clothes aren't smelly or dirty I will wear them 2x in a row. I don't work in the same place every day though so I don't have to worry about colleagues thinking I only own a few items of clothing (even though I do only own a few items of clothing). It means the laundry pile is slightly less mountainous and saves water and energy.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 22/08/2018 21:59

Me too @spugzbunny

But agree with a PP that I’d definitely wear the same thing two days in a row if my “audience” was different.

Patiently waiting for all the hysterics to show up ranting and raving about how “nose blind” the OP is and how my wearing the same clothes twice (consecutive or otherwise) means “you stink and others are just too polite to say”

OP YANBU (even if this is Chat)

parklives · 22/08/2018 22:06

All the time I love have to only do 1 load of clothes washing for myself a week.
I do change my sheets weekly though so I'm not a complete slaters

MrsRubyMonday · 22/08/2018 22:06

I do the same as spugz. I have two pairs of work trousers that fit currently, several more than are too big or too small so currently unwearable. Don't really want to buy more as I'm still losing weight.

I wear one pair of trousers Monday Wednesday, the other pair Tuesday Thursday. Clean tops every day, black with the colourful trousers, bright with the black and white ones. Friday is dress down so jeans and T-shirt. In between, trousers are folded and placed in a drawer we keep specifically for clothes that have been worn but can be worn again, I used to leave them on the side but they got covered in car fur so we rearranged to make space.

giveitfive · 22/08/2018 22:10

I can't be arsed with clothes so I generally wear black trousers and black tops. I repeat wear and the only thing I change is big statement necklaces.

I realised that I rarely notice what other people are wearing today compared with yesterday... and neither do they....

DramaAlpaca · 22/08/2018 22:14

I sometimes wear a top two days running as long as it's not been a hot day. I have no problem wearing jeans or trousers for a few days.

What I never do is wear something then put it back in the wardrobe without washing it. If I want to re-wear it I'll hang it over a chair or on a hanger on the wardrobe door handle.

Gibble1 · 22/08/2018 22:15

My colleagues and I all do as we put scrubs on for our working day so are only wearing our clothes from maybe 7-7:30 and 6:15-9pm (when we all get our jammies on) so likely we will wear the same outfit all 4 working days.

AwdBovril · 22/08/2018 22:16

DH sweats quite a lot more than me, so in warm weather he will often change his top halfway through the day, just to feel fresh - not an issue as obviously in summer we can dry it all outside on the line. TBH this summer, even I've been doing that, & I sweat less than anyone I know.

I don't put worn things back in with the clean ones though. My memory isn't good enough - I just leave them out on a chair & wear them again in the next day or two, & they get washed when necessary.
