Practical tips on sleeping through noise

snoopydogg · 22/08/2018 21:13

My neighbours burglar alarm has been continuously going off for 48 hours now.

I have had the council antisocial team out twice as well as the police but they say that they cannot do anything other than contact the key holder.

The noise can still be heard through my earplugs. Plus I need to hear my alarm clock.

I feel like the noise is right in my skull! Neighbours dog is also barking at the sound.

So I need practical help please on how to sleep!?!

Turn the TV or radio on, I can sleep through the TV noise but not alarm type noises.

snoopydogg · 22/08/2018 21:15

I can hear it very clearly over the tv but will give it a try!

Are your earplugs the silicon ones ? I find them the best.

They blooming can do something. Get Environmental Health out, you want an assessment of Statutory Nuisance. They can go to a JP to get a warrant to enter the premises and silence it themselves. They are having you on.

White noise might help a bit. Won't drown it out completely. I like the rain sounds ones on you tube.

RandomMess · 22/08/2018 21:45

I agreed about them having you on! The should have taken it to court today...

Premier Inn? That’s what I would be doing

PoptartPoptart · 22/08/2018 21:52

Check yourself into a local hotel for the night and send the bill to your neighbors

snoopydogg · 22/08/2018 21:53

I just saw a policewoman outside who said nothing they can do other than keep calling the owner.

I can't afford to check into a premier inn forever! What if the owner never gets in touch?!

The council have also send someone out three times, I have complained three times and asked my neighbour to do the same.

Thinking of calling 101 to tell them my neighbours house is on fire and see who comes out then...

Have you got any Night Nurse in? That always knocks me out. I would take that, put earplugs in, secure a pillow around the back and sides of my head and set my dawn simulator alarm clock up/leave the curtains wide open to make sure I wake up in the morning. That's the best I have, sorry!

Assume you can't stay with friends or family overnight?

Childrenofthesun · 22/08/2018 21:57

I feel for you. Our neighbour's alarm was going off at 5am today and it was impossible to get back to sleep.

Is there a number or name of the company on the alarm that you could contact who might be able to help?

If not, could you try playing white noise through an MP3 player or phone? It's good for masking outside sounds. Or use a fan?

BifsWif · 22/08/2018 21:58

Even if they gained access to the property, they wouldn’t know the codes to silence and reset the panel.

Where are your neighbours? I’d be cutting the cable to the bell box and taking the back up battery out personally, alarms are meant to shut off after a time - usually 20 minutes. I’d be furious by now.

snoopydogg · 22/08/2018 21:59

This was going on last night so who's to say it won't go on for days and days?

Literally it hasn't stopped ALL DAY.

The white noise app "rain rain" has a timer on so you can fade it out before your alarm clock goes off. Sounds shitty.
