North or South Wales for a holiday? Scenery/walks/nature.

Where would you go? Much difference?

2 DC- a 4 year old and 7mo baby.

Would really like to see beautiful views/mountains/lakes etc luckily 4yo likes nature and baby will just be in a carrier. Though obviously can't do massive hikes as he only has little legs and one of us is weighed down with the baby!

Are they pretty similar? Snowdonia/Pembrokeshire/Brecon Beacons - any of those better than the others? I'm drawn to Snowdonia - mountains and lakes. But the other two are closer together so could possibly visit a bit of both.

Also 4yo likes castles/beaches/other kid things

Also is it always raining there?!

Any opinions?

Need to hurry up and book as meant to be going in 12 days but not sure where to book!

Oh forgot to mention that we saw an amazing sunset at South Stack, well worth braving the wind for.

In addition to the castles etc., there's also some good play park type things. Green Wood family park is fantastic (but more expensive than most attractions). Gypsy Wood is cheaper, but smaller and more run down (DD didn't care and had to be dragged away).

Harlech castle is lovely too, but with steep steps and a scary walk along the top not suitable in windy weather. Harlech beach is very clean and suitable for families.

If you got to Caernarfon, I would recommend the Black Boy Inn for food. We had the most amazing mixed grill off the lunch menu and I had to waddle out.

Oh i live in Snowdonia! Lucky me!

OP you made the best choice!

MingeUterusMingeMingeYoni · 26/08/2018 17:40

I've never been to Harlech Castle. Must give it a try sometime. What's Beaumaris Castle like in comparison to Conwy and Caernarfon, same quality-ish?

Ifonlyiweretaller · 26/08/2018 18:30

Watching with interest. I rediscovered Wales having been to Llandudno and Angelsey recently and loving the whole area, so persuaded my OH to do a road trip - I've booked 8 days around Wales in September. We now need to fill in the gaps of what to do around each place- there is some great info on here!

Coconutcake0 · 26/08/2018 18:47

Yes minge all in VGC and very similar!

GerddwrEryri · 27/08/2018 12:23

Does anyone know if there is much to do in Bangor with DC? Also where is good to eat out for lunch or dinner?

Coconutcake0 · 27/08/2018 12:29

Not really much to do in Bangor. Crabbing on the pier perhaps?

Blue Sky Cafe, top place to eat! Have a look on Trip Advisor

ErrolTheDragon · 27/08/2018 12:37

We stayed in Bangor last year, there's a cheerful Italian near the pier www.pulcinellabangor.co.uk which is family friendly. Most of the other places we liked were over the bridge in Menai Straits.

MingeUterusMingeMingeYoni · 27/08/2018 13:29

There's not loads to do in Bangor itself, it's more a town for people living there than for holidaymakers, if you see what I mean, but you're quite conveniently located for a lot of things.

GerddwrEryri · 28/08/2018 12:35

Ahh thanks. I think we'll give it a miss then. What else is there to do with a 6 year old in the local area? She's quite outdoorsy. We plan to walk Snowdon which means DP will be wrecked the next day so need to find something for DSD and I to do for a day

Becca19962014 · 28/08/2018 15:00

Caernarfon castle is really good, there's loads to do there, there's the town walls and docks as well as the steam train which is fabulous. There are some good activities on the Rome in Llandudno as well.

Becca19962014 · 28/08/2018 15:01

Oh ffs ORME not bloody Rome! I guess at least autocorrect got the right letters!!!!

MingeUterusMingeMingeYoni · 28/08/2018 17:51

Agree, if you're staying in Bangor eyri then Caernarfon Castle would be a good next day activity after a climb. It's not far to drive and there are buses as well. If you've transport, I hear good things about GreenWood but never been.

GerddwrEryri · 28/08/2018 18:01

Thanks both. I was a bit worried DSD would find Greenwood a bit dull as she always enjoys the larger rollercoasters at theme parks. Maybe Caernarfon would be good with her. I've done loads in the area but never with a child in tow and the kind of things I've done are Go below and the like.

MrsWooster · 28/08/2018 18:39

We are in Rhos on Sea (next to Llandudno) at the moment and it's like holidaying in the 1960s. This is, I hasten to add, a Good Thing!

Zofloramummy · 28/08/2018 20:49

If you are near Bangor then head over the Menai bridge to Anglesey. There is the Sea Zoo, Plas Newydd (national trust) some lovely beaches, the butterfly farm.
