Superdrug security breach

Has anyone else had an email from Superdrug? I received the following yesterday.

We respect the privacy of your personal information, which is why we are writing to advise you of an event that resulted in the possible disclosure of your personal data, but not including your payment card information.

On the evening of the 20th of August, we were contacted by hackers who claimed they had obtained a number of our customers’ online shopping information. There is no evidence that Superdrug’s systems have been compromised. We believe the hacker obtained customers’ email addresses and passwords from other websites and then used those credentials to access accounts on our website. The hacker claims that they have obtained information on approximately 20,000 customers but we have only seen 386.

Customers’ names, addresses and, in some instances, date of birth, phone number and points balances may have been accessed. In line with good security practice, we are advising you to change your Superdrug.com password now and on an on-going, frequent basis.

We have contacted the Police and Action Fraud (the UK’s national fraud and cyber-crime arm) and will be offering them all the information they need for their investigation as we continue to take the responsibility of safeguarding our customers’ data incredibly seriously.

Yup.

Boglin · 22/08/2018 18:17

Yep but the server wouldn't let me in to change my password last night. Will try again later.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/08/2018 18:18

Check on haveibeenpwned.com to see if your info is out there. It is a legit site, but of course you should do you own research to make sure it's not just harvesting email addresses... Wink

Reaa · 22/08/2018 18:20

The news story was in The Independent today apparently 20,000 users names and address have been hacked but bank/credit card information is safe.

BertrandRusselI · 22/08/2018 18:21

Just managed to change mine Boglin

Akire · 22/08/2018 18:22

Yes but couldn’t remember password to log in..

MarthaArthur · 22/08/2018 18:25

I got the same email from currys although they said they had actually been hacked and data stolen.

Trevorthebikethief · 22/08/2018 20:17

Yes, I couldn’t log on last night but I’ve managed to change my details today.

Yes. And one today also from a phone company I’ve used previously which says the same.

PaddysMarket · 22/08/2018 20:21

Yeah I got the email too, I had to reset my password as I couldn't remember but it took hours for the reset email to be sent then when I did try and reset the password I couldn't due to a error. I managed it today, I don't even remember what details Superdrug would have about me, its been ages since I registered for a card.

ShreddedFeet · 22/08/2018 20:30

Superdrug today and anyone's guess who it will be next tomorrow/next week/next month.
It seems none of our information is ever safe. I've really started to reduce as much as possible who ibshare info with.

I nearly always lie about Date of birth and other details where I can now. Obviously im the same as anyone else with a ton of personal info out there that will most probably be hacked and used fraudulently in some way in the future.

Boglin · 22/08/2018 21:45

Thanks Bertrand and Trevor, I have changed it now. Rather ironic that their privacy promise says they will never let any unauthorised person access your data! Hmm

TillyVonMilly · 22/08/2018 22:13

Thanks op, I got the email too but had forgotten to change my passwords, best do it nowSmile

TillyVonMilly · 22/08/2018 22:16
