Going abroad with 3dc who are very fair skinned to hotel with onsite water park. I have perilously used boots or Aldi for UK holidays but can't find any in my 2 local Aldi stores and read some reviews on boots and their Soltan cream now has terrible reviews with people claim it didn't work at all. So if you have been abroad what cream did you use that you didn't burn with.

We are currently on holiday in Portugal using Soltan Once Kids 8 hour Play on our pale blue children and no problems. We apply morning and afternoon as they are in and out of the sea/pool and take cover i doors 1-3ish and I can confirm they are still pale blue on day 5 Grin.

We use P20. It's expensive but good. And it lasts for ages even when applying twice a day.

Soltan worked for us - 2 weeks in Portugal but it was a bit sticky.
We used Superdrug last year and
It was great.
The Sainsbury’s own one is fine as well.

They all have 5* UVA ratings which most “high end” creams don’t have .

I recently bought Ambre Solair Dry Mist and I was very impressed with it.

There was non of that horrible sticky feeling you get with some. Asda do their own version as well

PumpkinParent · 22/08/2018 17:36

We always used to use Ambre Solaire Kids Sensitive 50+ until my thrifty (ahem) Yorkshire husband brought home some Asda own 50+. It is like thick emulsion paint but gets five stars for UVA as a PP pointed out and has so far been ok for our very fair skinned children. Ambre Solaire gets only three stars for UVA protection I think.

Calypso dry oil factor 30 every time. Never burn. No staining & the oil is easy to apply & you get a glistening which shows where you've applied it. Also cheaper than some of the other lotions & just as effective!

OliviaBenson · 22/08/2018 17:52

Calypso one a day for kids. Been in the tropics with it and never burnt. From home bargains.

badgeronabicycle · 22/08/2018 17:58

Ladival for the kids and P20 for DH. All factor 50.

trapinch · 22/08/2018 18:02

Ultrasun is great, just get everyone to put it on all over first thing in the morning and it should last all day. If sun is really strong you could top up exposed areas once during the day.

Don't go for Riemann P20 as it really stains clothes.

Popped into town this afternoon and got 2 Boots Soltan factor 50, 2 Superdrug factor 50 and 2 Nivea water proof 8 hours factor 50 trigger spray (which I will apply more than 8 hourly) hopefully that combination will stop anyone burning. We are going for 2 weeks do you think 6 bottles is enough cream?

Altruist spf 50 spray

MunchMunch · 22/08/2018 19:01

Aldi for us and never had a problem with it.

Ds2 got burnt terribly using P20 and Asda's kids spray.

Pimmsypimms · 22/08/2018 19:05

Yes to Asda Home brand too as it has 5 stars and a good price. I usually buy Aldi but they’ve been sold out for ages, apparently a supply issue according to a staff member.

danni0509 · 22/08/2018 19:08

Superdrug factor 50, the white bottle think it's called solait baby, its 2 bottles for about £6, 5 star protection, it's the only one my 4 yr old can wear without coming out in a rash, he's never burnt either not even gone pink and we go out in the sun a lot.

fruitpastille · 22/08/2018 22:46

Do not buy calypso (from Aldi and I've seen in TKMaxx) Smells horrible, like banana bubble gum, and made our faces sting!

Mrbatmun · 22/08/2018 22:48

It does seem like on the high street the more expensive the suncream, the less stars! Obviously ultrasun etc is good but it is ££££££££ and you can get the same protection with Soltan or the supermarket own brand stuff which is all 5 stars.

PerspicaciaTick · 22/08/2018 22:50

Ultrasun. Put it on before breakfast and you'll be good all day.
Also, have a look at the 50+ UV T-shirts for kids and adults in Decathlon, excellent value and really helpful in and out of water.

Kewqueue · 22/08/2018 22:52

Lidl has always worked well for us.

5down12go · 22/08/2018 23:23

Not sure on whether it will be enough, I can’t remember exactly but is it something like 13 applications if used properly per bottle on a child, it’s too late for me to try and work the maths out but I’d maybe get another couple of bottles to make sure.

We’ve used the Superdrug own brand here this summer and I’ve been really impressed, factor 50 and it’s disappeared really easily, left their skin soft but not sticky and smells gorgeous, they did a really handy rollerball that I kept in my bag for random sun appearances that was quite cheap too and easy to apply
