What do you think? Pros and cons why like/dislike?

I've known 3 Claudias (all claw) and they were all lovely. I taught two and they were both in the same class. Never taught any others in all the thousands I've taught over the years!

MorrisDancingViv · 21/08/2018 19:33

Love it, want to use it!

Davros · 21/08/2018 19:42

Cloud-ia won't work unless you move to Italy

I love it but I pronounce it clord-ia rather than cloud.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 21/08/2018 19:49

I love it, it was my grandmother's name. Pronounced claw dia in the UK. Cloud dia is the European pronunciation. Really not with a K, please.

FireflyGirl · 21/08/2018 19:50

Was on my list if DS had been a girl, I think it's a beautiful name (claw-dia). DH vetoed because he has no taste.

Twolittlebears · 21/08/2018 19:53

Love it. Very strong name. Works for both a baby and a CEO.

FunkeMonkey · 21/08/2018 20:42

Okay I'll have to ask what's wrong with Klaudia pronounced Cloud ee a ? Does it not sound as strong ?

OP posts:
GreatDuckCookery6211 · 21/08/2018 20:45

Klaudia has no twist! It's naff. Don't do it!

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 21/08/2018 20:46

Are you a Kardashian?

BeeFarseer · 21/08/2018 20:48

It's trashy as fuck if you spell it with a K, that's why.

FunkeMonkey · 21/08/2018 20:48

Erm I don't get the Kardashian thing either.
I don't really know much about them but I don't think there is a Klaudia amongst them ?! 🤷🏻‍♀️

MarthaArthur · 21/08/2018 20:49

Im a claudia prn claw dia.

LookImAHooman · 21/08/2018 20:50

For the love of God (or just your child), don’t do the naff ‘K’ thing. You’re not a Kardashian (I assume). It’s not classy. It’s not a ‘twist’. Think of the poor girl who has to spend her life a) correcting people’s spelling all. The. Time and b) having her parents’ taste judged all. The. Time.

LookImAHooman · 21/08/2018 20:51

Oh. Still the school holidays. 3/10.

FunkeMonkey · 21/08/2018 20:56

Okay I am getting really confused now sorry. Mumsnet HQ feel free to delete this thread if you think I am a school kid spending my evening asking people what they think of a name?!
Geez people get a grip.

OP posts:
Twolittlebears · 21/08/2018 20:57

IMO the "K" is awful. It's not a "K" name. Why would you want to make it one?

FunkeMonkey · 21/08/2018 20:59

Because my parents are from Eastern Europe and that's how it would be spelled there.

OP posts:
LookImAHooman · 21/08/2018 21:03

Right, well, there’s a drip feed Hmm

OP, you’re posting in the UK. Here it’s spelt with a ‘C’ and a K (with an Anglo surname at least) wouldn’t be a ‘twist’, it’d be seen as trashy as hell. Unfortunately. If she’d still have your parents’ surname then you’re far more likely to get away with it but she’ll still spend her entire life here explaining it.

LookImAHooman · 21/08/2018 21:04

And it’s a lovely, lovely name in itself that could take a girl and woman anywhere.

Holidayshopping · 21/08/2018 21:10

We were put off using it when we found it meant, ‘lame’. DH felt like it would be tempting fate somehow-it sounds silly now.

I still like the name.

Rockbird · 22/08/2018 10:39

Spell it with a K if you want OP. MN often doesn't realise that people live outside the U.K. and might have different spellings for things Hmm

It's a lovely name whether it's Claw or Clow, with a C or a K.

MorrisDancingViv · 22/08/2018 10:42

@rockbird this is a UK forum so it's reasonable to assume that most people posting are in the UK. Further, if op had said from the start that she likes Klaudia (kloud-ia) and mentioned Eastern European roots I expect most people would have said it was nice but that in the UK the name is normally pronounced claw-dia and spelt with a C so she might find pronunciation/spelling issues.

I think you only have to be here for a very short time before you see that posters come from all over. Besides, it doesn't take much effort to consider other possibilities for a moment rather than jumping in with the yucks.
