Reusable nappies

Hello,

I'm toying with trying reusable nappies but have no idea about them or where to start.

Is anyone able to advise on how they work and what brand/system you use

Thank you

I use the all in one nappies. Favourite brands are Tots Bots, Bambino Mio and BumGenius. Everything you need is there in one nappy, no extras needed. You can buy them cheaper on eBay second hand. The one off cost of reusable nappies is quite expensive but over time, they work out lots cheaper than disposables.

You typically need 15-20 nappies if you’re ok with washing every other day. Newborns need a disposable liner inside the nappy (tots bots sell them) which is disposed off in the bin. When they start to wean and poo becomes solid, it can be tipped down the loo so I switched to reusable liners at this stage.

I keep dirty nappies in a bucket. Wash with normal non-bio powder, never softener as it ruins them! Dry them either on the washing line or clothes horse, they dry very quickly.

Have a look at Little Lambs.

Go to thenappylady website, lots of advice and info, she does a questionnaire for which type of nappy most likely suit your situation re washing/drying facilities.

Things to think about, who is going to be looking after your child until they're out of nappies? I chose shaped 2 parts (little lamb) because I didn't think I'd get my dh to change a nappy if he had to fold or pin. All-in-ones might be easier if childcare is going to use them as they're the closest to disposable.

One size (birth to potty) types rarely fit newborns unless s/he is very chunky. I used disposable for a couple of weeks before starting using little lamb 2 parts because it was a big enough change without adding extra into the picture, plus I couldn't work out how to accommodate the cord with them.

I'd personally buy second hand of a few different types and see what suits your child. Look at totsbots star easyfit (didn't work for us to start with but I grew to like them) little lamb 2 parts (one word BOMBPROOF)

Check out the website fillyourpants - lots of brands and very helpful.

Reusable wipes are also amazing - so much more efficient than disposable ones and, if you’re washing nappies anyway, no hassle at all. We used Cheeky Wipes.

Actually feeling quite nostalgic for the happy days now!
