Just a bottle of wine? For them or the type you would hope to drink? I always balls this up.

Never wine. Flowers are good

Cardiganandcuppa · 21/08/2018 00:25

Two things usually out of wine, chocs and /or flowers.

cheesecake...i would love anyone who brought me dessert

SneakyGremlins · 21/08/2018 00:27

I'm sober and know nothing about wine so I take chocolates to friends when going for dinner!

ladybirdsarelovely33 · 21/08/2018 00:28

Wine plus beers - as dh doesn't drink wine. Also flowers or chocolates.
However we tend to ask if we can bring anything. So if they say dessert, then will bring that only with the drinks.

fire extinguisher

seriously, since my house caught fire a few years back, I've been handing these out to all my friends

Clairetree1 · 21/08/2018 00:29

It didn't save our lives but it certainly saved our home and our pets, and in slightly different circumstances it might have saved our lives too.

adoggymama · 21/08/2018 00:48

Wine or flowers.

Invitation formally for dinner?

Wine and flowers

Kind of a 'come and have tea with us' / less formal invitation probably nice biscuits and maybe some flowers.

If asked 'for a meal' I might offer to bring the pudding, or something. It does depend how close you are to the people / how formal it is / if it is a regular turn taking thing with people you see often / and probably other scenarios.

Would depend a bit on where I'm coming from / if I have chance to pick up flowers that day.

I had this dilemma last night with my DH work friend. I settled on prosecco and flowers. They were well received.

Woofsaidtheladybird · 21/08/2018 01:08

Omg I'm in this dilemma

I'm in Adelaide at a conference and staying in a hotel... cousin's husbands nephew lives nearby and has kindly invited me over for dinner... no idea re shops nearby... said can I bring wine and he said he has plenty! Aargh!!

BackforGood · 21/08/2018 20:43

Possibly slightly different if you are in a foreign country, for work. You would be excused not carrying stuff with you / not really able to get to shops Smile

Growingboys · 21/08/2018 20:45

Wine and flowers. Or wine and something I've baked/made myself. Or an expensive scented candle. Or a funny seasonal joke.

TrippingTheVelvet · 21/08/2018 20:45

Either 2 bottles of wine or one wine and a bunch of flowers.

user1486076969 · 21/08/2018 20:46

Wine, of course Grin

BertrandRusselI · 21/08/2018 20:47

Cheese or chocolate or flowers or ice-creammmmm

Babybearsporij · 21/08/2018 21:52

Wine / beer
Maybe chocs or homemade cakey type thing

TiffinBox · 21/08/2018 21:55

Flowers, chocolate and or cheesecake.

Lynne1Cat · 21/08/2018 21:57

I usually offer to take the dessert - and I always take my own drinks. The people who come to me do the same - it's an understanding we all have.

Somerville · 21/08/2018 21:58

A bottle of decent wine and generally flowers.

Faster · 21/08/2018 21:58

Depends on whose house it is really. Usually a bottle of wine for the hosts, take my own for me if it’s that kind of do and then a little something just for them, flowers etc.
