Hi we are stay at Efteling next week, our first time there.

Are there any top tips that we should be aware of?

And is there a paper map available on site as the app map is a bit odd, and I can't find a pdf on the website

Thanks!

You can get the efteling app which I found really helpful, and I'm sure there were paper maps, although is a couple of years since we went.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 20/08/2018 22:35

You can get paper maps easily.
Its really a magical experience. Your going to love it Grin

holidaylady · 20/08/2018 22:38

Ah great re the paper maps. Got the app.

Do we need to book the evening show? We arrive Monday leave Thursday, would it be ok to book for wed night or would it be sold out do you think?

How big is it to walk around? Compared to say Alton towers?
Our 5yo DD is pretty lazy!

It's pretty big. Much bigger than Alston Towers. You can hire little wooden chairs to pull kids around on.

holidaylady · 20/08/2018 23:06

Oh wow! Maybe we should bring her scooter?

Where are you staying op?
Hire the cute little pull along things.
How old are your dc

RayneDance · 20/08/2018 23:06

Don't think scooters allowed small dc use little trollies

holidaylady · 20/08/2018 23:13

We are staying in a loonsche land theme room by the water.
All I know is, we need to bring our own coffee cups!

Ok. Lovely. Your next to borsijk village check that out too. Explore play areas, restaurant has nice feel to it by lake.

Well enjoy the extra magic time.
You will need to follow fairy tale Wood map to make sure you get every single one.

I would make sure you properly do the wood when your all feeling really ready, not tired. Even better if it's a barmy evening. You could spend hours in there. Right in middle is little cafe.

Another area younger dc love to just hang out is land of the laffs. It has one ride but the real charm is the little area to run round, water pumps, little bridges and houses and stepping stones across pond. We managed several hours there on a hot day.

Do theme park rides first thing.
Droomvulcht, smbolica, the old cars, etc... Then spend rest of day in wood, land of laffs. And carousel Square. Loads of them and other rides, cute cafes to sit at, little musuem.

Don't miss the 3d cinema show panda droon. And the play area when you exit theatre is great. It really surprises the dc. Good to go back too on rainy day.

Beware of villa volta if your claustrophobic.
They filter you through cramped rooms before the ride.

George and dragon is fast ride which even I managed to go on and enjoy. Toboggan is also fun for age 5. Our then 5 year old adored the river rapid ride, the old cars, Droomvulcht, smbolica and the rest like wood.

Eat at Pinocchio restaurant one night, book they can probably seat you but ask for seat near stage.
Eat at ravajlin in day time, cheaper and surprisingly nice food not pricey... Watch raviljn show too.

Enjoy, soak in all the details and stunning flowers. Only area we are not keen on is where monsieur cannibal is however dd loves the maze there and ride which shows different nationalities.

Your dd will be blown away.

Even if you’re planning to eat in your house, do have breakfast at least once in the restaurant. It’s great.

There is free WiFi at the restaurants in the park - when we paused (it was 30 degrees every day when we went!) I uploaded all my photos to google to keep my phone clear.

Get there when it opens and they have carts with maps so you can pick up a few.

The knight show (Ravelijn? Something like that) is great. Definitely make time for that.

We went for five days and a couple of times did mornings in the park then came back and went swimming in the afternoon. Don’t do it the other way round - the park is sweltering in the afternoon! Unless you go straight to the white water raft ride of course!

It’s wonderful you’re going to love it. Most people speak English by the way - the only person that didn’t was the young woman in the ice cream place - and tbh we got round that by pointing!

Most places take card payments if you’re taking a credit card. There’s ATMs about if you’re not.

I don't think op has access to the pool sadly.

holidaylady · 21/08/2018 10:17

Hi we get breakfast in the hotel each morning and I think we do get access to the pool.

Thanks for all the tips, really helpful!

Damn I just checked on the site - no pool.

Efteling top tips?
holidaylady · 21/08/2018 12:27

Oh thanks Diana it looks like we don't get into the pool. Never mind, it looks a bit dark inside for our dd anyway. She's quite sensitive.

Our hotel before efteling has a pool so that's fine.

I think I need to have a read of the website again
