I have a lump and I'm panicking.

I noticed, about a month ago, what felt like a knot in the muscle towards the back/side of my neck. Didn't think much of it as I'm tense and knotty anyway. Life has been a mess and I forgot about it.

I noticed it again on Saturday and prodded it a bit constantly its about a 5p size but feels bigger with all the skin around it, moves around when prodded and is firm but almost bouncy.

Couldn't get a doctors appointment today, will try again tomorrow but I'm panicking massively. God knows how long it's been there! Or what it is!

I have quite swollen glands anyway, have had a few viruses recently. Have also had full blood tests (for highish blood pressure when period is due) not that long ago that all came back clear apart from a slightly raised red blood cell count, very slightly and I did smoke then.

Has anyone had anything similar? Am I being melodramatic?

First things first, STOP PANICKING!
Theres lots of reasons for lumps, fatty tissue, raised glad due to infection/viruses, like you've said yourself, you've had some.
I know it's easier said than done but seriously, stop PANICKING yourself, ring the doctor's tomorrow and see what they say. I had a huge palpable node on my neck last year, panicked myself crazy, had a scan to be told, well it's a raised node, can happen for many reasons, low lying infection that's your clearly fighting well as your fine.
Stop yourself from thinking about it tonight, please xx

Thank you, so much, for your reply. I really appreciate it. I'll stop prodding and try and relax xx

Oh I get lumps coming up and going a week later and reappearing in different places around my neck quite regularly. I don't worry about it because if it was anything bad, it would stay in one place and grow bigger.

If it moves around it's probably a cyst. Get it checked but try not to worry.

Patienceisvirtuous · 20/08/2018 19:51

It’s when it’s solid and doesn’t move that you should worry. Best to get checked out for peace of mind though x

I had a huge lump on the back of my neck about a year ago. Figured it was a swollen lymph node and it disappeared after a couple of weeks. I'd completely forgotten about it until now!

TerryTucker · 20/08/2018 20:34

Honestly it's probably nothing. Get it checked out and if you're still not happy insist on a second opinion 🙂

Thank you all! I'll be on the phone at 8am for an appointment, I feel bad taking one up as it isn't an emergency but they don't have any book in advance ones for 4 weeks.

It definitely moves about if pushed but is quite firm. I've checked everywhere else on my neck and body for anything but it's just the one. I'm sure it's just a cyst but these things don't half make you worry!

@Hayles88 I have a softish lump in my left shoulder, it moves, although hurt like a bitch when the doctor moved it, had an ultra sound on it, it's a lipoma, a fatty lump of tissue. Some days it's bigger than others. It's my little failed adipose Grin

Hayles88 · 20/08/2018 22:44

@PrincessIsAUnicorn

Thank you. I'm really trying not to worry. I know that it moving is a massive plus. Sorry it hurt when the doctor moved yours! Thanks for the heads up.

Honestly thank you all for the advice and stories of your weird lumps. I think I worry more as I'm on my own with DS and no family. Makes me over think the worst out come etc. Hopefully I can get an appointment tomorrow and have an answer about it. I've resisted prodding it all night.

It must be worrying for you not having family to vent to. Luckily it was the nice doctor in the practice, else I'd have had words Grin
