Contact your local council.

There's quite a big difference between the two.

A babysitter doesn't need any qualifications or training and generally does the odd couple of hours in the evening at someone else's house.

If you plan to look after children for more than a couple of hours a day, ie as an actual job, you need to be OFSTED regisitered and to complete a course on running a home based childcare business, including an inspection of your house to make sure its suitable, first aid course, public liability insurance etc.

You are belitting the profession by lumping it in with babysitting, which many teenagers do for pocket money.

You could also look at nannying which is usually in the child's home and doesn't have the same level of red tape as childminding but most parents will still want to see some evidence of suitability for the role.

There is a lot more to childminding than babysitting including quite a lot of admin and training/continuous development. It can be very rewarding but I have only managed to earn a part-time income for a fulltime job.

Contact your local council, who will explain what the registration process is in your area.

Thank you all for your help .didn't intend to belittle anything I've just heared that some people would have a babysitter for few hours twice a week while a parent works if there are no childminders in the area .I've qualified in childcare at a level 2 level and have the experience just not sure on the qualifications I need .

Have a look at the Pacey website - the professional association of childcare and early years. I did my course through them online so you can do it in your own time.
