Late 30s and still getting terrible spots :-(

I naively thought when I left my teens behind, I'd also leave spots behind me 😭😭. Wishful thinking on my part! I started using dermalogica about 10 years ago which made a huge difference but over the last 6 months, I've had loads of big, red, sore spots especially around my chin. Is this just part of getting older? I use Estée Lauder double wear light as my skin tone is quite uneven and I like to keep it covered. That probably doesn't help in terms of letting my skin breath but any tips on what to do to stop these horrible spots from reappearing? I wash and cleanse well at night to make sure my skin is clean before bed. Thanks in advance xx

Marking place for tips but I think the humid weather we’ve had recently really hasn’t helped

See your GP, who will probably prescribe antibiotics. If they don't work (it can take a month or 2), ask to be referred to a dermatologist. Roaccutane can be prescribed by a hospital doctor

Heratnumber7 · 20/08/2018 17:13

I've previously taken Roaccutane, with great results. It has to be prescribed by a consultant though, not GP, as it has some serious side effects, and you MUST NOT get pregnant while using it. It does horrible things to the foetus.
Prior to Roaccutsne I'd taken ABs up to my 40s on and off. I found that they work well (Lymecycline), but the acne always came back after a while.

I had low b12 and a thyroid issue discovered when my skin started getting bad after 30.

I had bad spots from puberty to menopause, except when I was either on a bcp which suited me, pregnant or breastfeeding. In my case, it was just about the only visible symptom of PCOS. Not saying it's particularly likely to be that for you, but it really can be hormones.

Acnecide is brilliant. You can buy it over the counter. I used it for two weeks and it cleared up my chin. Now on the odd occasion I feel one coming up I pop a bit on. I used to constantly have large spots on my chin and had tried lots before this was recommended to me.

The only thing that has worked for my cystic acne is medication

Specifically, spironolactone pills and a antibiotic gel called clindamycine

LyndaLaHughes · 20/08/2018 17:32

I agree with the PP about Acnecide. It is fantastic stuff. I say this as someone who used to be on Dianette for my skin.

My skin was awful and I went to the doctors and was diagnosed with rosacea. Since then I've done lots of research and come to the conclusion it's caused by demodex mites. They live in your skin and cause spots.

Over the past 10 weeks I have maintained a strict skin care regime using tea tree oil products. In addition I've used Rozex cream during the day which is an antibiotic cream prescribed by my doctor and Soolantra cream at night (also prescribed) which contains ivermectin to kill the mites. My skin is the best it's ever been for years.

So I would so some research as it could be demodex mites. Hope you can sort it.

I'm 44 and i get the most horrendous big red spots on my jaw line, massive they are with big yellow heads. Ive been using diluted apple cider vinegar which seems to be helping

Thanks for the tips! I bought some acnecide and it's working a treat! Would thoroughly recommend to anyone who was following my post. Thanks lovely ladies!
