Would you watch The Meg with a 7 and 9 yr old?

Pros:

It’s a 12A so technically it’s ok I think, and from the reviews it looks like there’s not much gore.
Both kids are not at all phased by things like Jurassic World and know movies are just fake.
They watched the trailer and didn’t get scared by anything.
They really want to see it.

Cons:
Might be scarier than the trailer shows.
I’d have to sit through 2 hours of Jason Statham ‘acting’

So if you’ve seen The Meg, would you recommend it for kids who are young, but used to Jurassic Park/Jurassic World types of films?

There is a bit of shark and whale gore but not much human gore. Most get swallowed whole 😁
Some jumpy bits when you don't know the shark is going to appear.
I'd say It's very similar to Jurassic Park movies in terms of scariness etc

Going to take my DS next week, and possibly s friend of his, they’re 9. Same rating as Jurassic World so if find with that should be fine with The Meg..

Both me and dd (nearing 7) want to watch it together as she is called Meg so just fancies it for that. Will watch the thread and decide. Shes not at all phased by Jurassic park etc. Watched Pirates of the Carribean almost by accident today and was enthralled and thats pretty gruesome.

I know somebody that's letting her just turned 5 yr old watch it...

I might not take a 7 year old. But there's gross shark/whale flesh and some severed limbs and that's it on the gore front.

Thank you for all the insights Smile Right, it sounds like there’s less gore than I expected. I’ll give it a try —grudgingly— and hope they enjoy it!

Right, having seen it, I would say it’s a firm 10/11yrs+. However, my level headed v analytical nearly 8 yr old was fine. He was scared by the jump scares, then laughed at them, but a more nervous 7/8 yr old may have found it too much. My nervy 9 yr old was scared and entertained in equal measure, although he did have to cover his eyes for one bit.
I quite enjoyed it despite the occasional crap acting and preposterous situations but I have very low standards when it comes to films Grin

Dd is 7.5 and went to watch it last week with her dad. She loves films! Wasn't scared at all by it though.

The 12A rating is there to give parents the option, all children are different and some will be too young, others will be fine.

You know them besr.

Seen it with 7 yo and 10yo. No problems, a bit jumpy in parts, some blood and bits.

NoLogicInThis · 20/08/2018 21:23

I don't think it's that bad,the only thing for younger kids it takes ages to get to the shark bit

Welliejellie · 20/08/2018 21:49

I went to see if a few nights ago as my 7 year old wants to see it as all his friends have seen it! It's a bit jumpy in parts a fair few swear words. The only bit I thought my ds might get scared about was when the shark eats the people playing in the sea at the beach. Thought it might put him off.
