I KNOW it's August but *whispers* Can I have your amazing Christmas cake recipes please?

I'm going to make my own this year - never have done before and I need a fabulous receipt for a lovely cake that isn't dry and crumbly. And a Christmas pudding recipe if you have one.

MIL says I have to 'feed' it with booze?

Gizzi Erskine's Christmas cake recipe in her book season's greetings.

Absolutely delicious, converted non-Christmas-cake-eaters. Super moist and very easy (if expensive because dried fruit is expensive).

Also didn't require feeding.

She has a Christmas pudding recipe in there too but I've not tried that.

The Mrs Beeton one that was shared on here last year... do a search! 🎄

I can recommend the Eliza Acton recipe if you are planning on making your own pud. Yum!

I always make mine from an old Good Housekeeping recipe, it has grated 70% Green & Blacks chocolate in it and masses of dried fruit including Agen prunes. It's never been dry, is super easy and I totally want a piece of it NOW!

Delia's recipe has had the best reception here. I also feed my cake for at least a month.

It kept though. The last pieces were eaten and thoroughly enjoyed in April.

And yes, buying everything and the feeding turns it into an expensive treat. I ended up spending about 50 quid lady year!

Fab ladies, thank you, this gives me loads of research!

There's a Christmas topic for this crap!

I like Nigella's Christmas Cake recipe. It's made with bourbon and tastes incredible the longer it's left.

Sitranced · 20/08/2018 17:59

Now is the best time to make them. More time for feeding.

@AfterSchoolWorry

The thread title was very clear, so why click on it just to make such a pathetic comment?

OP, I alternate between Delia's Creole Christmas cake, lots of alcohol, no feeding required and a good housekeeping one from my mums 65 year old book.

I make my cake in Oct and feed it brandy weekly.

I use Delia for my cake and pud. Always delicious and her instructions are nice and clear for a first timer.

Delia’s Christmas Cake is my go to. I’ll be making it this weekend :)

Let the fruit soak in lots of brandy for a few days and be generous when you feed it!!

Yum yum :)

I clicked on it to tell people polluting the chat boards wth this stuff that there's a topic for it.

Christmas already invades enough of the year as it is. It's taken autumn, now it wants summer too! No!

Banish it to December!

Whatever recipe you pick, soak your dried fruit in mulled wine for at least 24 hours. It gives the cake a fruity richness without it being too heavy.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 20/08/2018 19:38

I make Delia's Creole christmas cake, with added spices and orange and lemon zest, and I generally change the combination of fruit. I've tried loads over the years but this is The One; I'll never change again. It doesn't need feeding, which is handy.
