Has anyone had milia removed?

I must have 15 below each eye that are really starting to bother me. Are the removal options realistic? Am I looking at several hundred pounds to get them sorted?

I've always removed them myself, with a pin. They're not far below the surface. You have to kind of cut an x over the top of them and scoop them out. It's like a little solid white lump.

There is an obvious risk of infection, scarring etc. I've never had any problems though. As I say, they're very close to the surface.

I'm not telling you this in any official capacity (I'm not a doctor or skin expert or anything) so If you do try it please be careful! I'd be mortified if you come back with a pin stuck in your cheek or something.

I’ve always done mine too. Blush

Doboopedoo · 19/08/2018 20:20

I have a forehead full of them, have removed some myself in the past but would like to know how to get them done properly too!
Any truth in them being ‘milk spots’?

Whoateallthecheese · 19/08/2018 20:27

Don't do them yourself! There's potential for really bad scarring and infection. I've had mine removed a couple of times by beauticians. Ring them and ask if they do it - mine have always insisted on doing mine after a facial so the skin is softer. They get them out with a needle I think. Didn't hurt but you do look spotty for a few days. Haven't had mine done for ages - the last person I saw said mine were probably caused by my moisturizer being too heavy and blocking my pores. I switched moisturizer to a lighter one and now only use it once a day and they've really improved.

I've always removed my own, and I've never caused any infection or scarring. I get my face really clean to start with, and then use surgical spirit to sterilise a needle - and re-sterilise frequently.

What I've found is that a few of them are stubborn, but if you go back the next day and have another go at the tricky ones, the initial attempt has weakened their grip and they come out easily.

Yes, I think the PP is right - using the wrong moisturiser does create more of them.

BigBlueBubble · 19/08/2018 21:18

I’m another one who removes them myself. I break the skin with a sharp sterilised needle and flick out the little lump of white gunk. It’s really satisfying! Mine have never scarred.

LookImAHooman · 20/08/2018 03:07

I’ve removed my own a few times before (carefully) but I just looked in the mirror tonight and didn’t know where to start! Sad I might ring round some local beauticians. For some reason I thought only dermatology clinics could do it.

Whoate do you mind me asking how much you paid?

Mine won't come out with a pin without leaving manky scabby bits, but an aspirin face mask a few times tends to do the trick.

namechange1112w · 20/08/2018 07:23

I got rid of mine just daily using a glycolic pad on them. It eventually broke them down and they disappeared.
To prevent Make sure you always remove all eye-makeup thoroughly with and oil free remover and don't use heavy creams or oils.

LookImAHooman · 20/08/2018 21:56

Ok, super interested in glycolic... I’ve not used it before. Any recommendations?

Pin!

happinessischocolate · 20/08/2018 22:01

What's an aspirin face mask? Just aspirin and water?

What is this about aspirin face mask??? I clearly need to google.

Lots of milia can be normal and just because of greasy/ clog-prone skin but you should also get your cholesterol levels checked if you are not generally prone to acne and blackheads.

lastqueenofscotland · 20/08/2018 22:13

I used to get mine burnt off and the difference was brilliant

Coconutcake0 · 20/08/2018 23:00

I get mine removed at the local beauty college. level 3 beauty qualification requires removal of them.

namechange1112w · 21/08/2018 06:11

@LookImAHooman
I used the nip and fab glycolic pads.

LookImAHooman · 21/08/2018 06:17

Thanks - think I’ll give them a shot first.
