Mirena Coil for endo query

Just shamelessly popping this in here for traffic as I did post it in women's health earlier but haven't had any response...Sad

I was after is advice on whether anyone has had the Mirena out for treating endometriosis and used the combined pill to treat it instead. My original post is below for further info Smile

I was diagnosed with endometriosis about 6 years
ago, for the first 2 years I had monthly Zolatex injections and then my GP said I'd done the course and couldn't have anymore.

Next, I was given the Mirena coil and, as with the Zoladex, I was pain free with frequent but light periods. However a few years in and I am on my period about 50% of the time and where they used to be light, they are becoming heavier again and the back and side pain is increasing to the point where the sharp pain is often taking my breath away as it did before.

I am guessing that the hormones have run out of my coil so after plenty of discussions with DP the coil is going to come out and we will be actively trying for a baby. However, I'm worried leaving my endo untreated in this time could harm our chances.

So I toddle off to the GP, for advice more than anything. GP advised the combined pill (although he had to Google whether it helped endo and then still wasn't sure) he said to try it and see how I 'get on’ and take ibuprofen for the pain (ok....confused)

I still have the coil in at the moment and don't know what to do for the best. If I keep it in = pain and awful periods but endo (possibly) being treated properly, take it out = regulate my periods but is it treating the endo (pain unknown)

Help! Thanks in advance smile

If you get on with the Mirena how about trying a POP like Cerazette? It’s what I use to control my endo as consultant wanted me to try Mirena but I wanted something easily reversible because we were thinking of TTC and I couldn’t take a combined pill due to migraines. I now have 1-2 light, pain free periods oer year and have my life back.

Thank you, I've just being Googling it and it seems like it will possibly be better for me than the combined pill, especially if it is going to help treat my endo (not sure why the GP didn't mention this Confused) I am just getting really fed up of constantly being on my period and the emotions and pain that comes with it, I'm exhausted!
