Manoeuvring a 50kg bath up a flight of stairs- will I be able to do it?

...with help of DH of course. What else weighs 50kg that I can practise on?

I wonder if the weight is less of an issue than the shape. The bath is a rigid object and if your stairs have a turn you might find it quite tricky

NicoAndTheNiners · 19/08/2018 18:12

Depends how strong you are! Grin

I can pick 100kg up off the floor ok so with someone else pushing from below could probably get a bath up stairs. Have you got a narrow corner to get round at the top? Problem is if you’re halfway up and realise it’s too much the person at the bottom risks being flattened! Grin

How much do you weigh? Can your dh practice pulling you up the stairs? Grin

Are you talking about a cast iron bath?

My husband and I took one out of a 1930s flat.

He took all the fixings out and then shouted to me to come in and help him move it away from the wall.

We pulled and pulled and eventually I called him an idiot and told him he must have it screwed to the wall still.

He didn't.

I have never felt anything so heavy in my entire life. It was massive, impossible to move around and he and I are pretty strong but no way!

In the end because we were taking it out we smashed it up to move it out.

I am told that men carry them on their backs like a turtle shell to carry them up the stairs but I would have to see that to believe it!!

Now I've got images flashing through my mind of DH dragging me up our 'up-five-stairs-then-turn-back-on-yourself-to-do-the-next-bloody-five-stairs' staircase.
I'm afraid to say that I weigh nearly twice the amount as the (acrylic&resin) tub Confused

2.5 x 20kg sacks of dog food tied together?

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/08/2018 18:19

That weighs more than me!

SylvesterTheCat · 19/08/2018 18:20

Nico- love it!

Ihavebrillohair are you saying I weigh two of you? Yikes. Though let's not turn this thread into what I think it's turning into... ConfusedGrin

I can get a nearly 30kg suitcase up and down stairs on my own. I banish the kids before doing so tho.
On the very steep set of stairs in the most recent holiday cottage, i was tempted to pack downstairs.
If it has a smooth top surface, you may be able to glide it up the stairs, rather than have to lift it.

specialsubject · 19/08/2018 18:26

max hold luggage limit is generally 20kg, and the biggest bags allowed are 32kg. 50kg up stairs wil be very diff icult even with two people.

acrylic and resin??? that is a serious bath!

Girlsworld92 · 19/08/2018 18:28

PIVOOOT
Sorry not helpful but I’ve just come back from friendsfesr so couldn’t resist 😀

Girlsworld92 · 19/08/2018 18:28

*friendsfest 🙄

Etino · 19/08/2018 18:28

Are you big chuckle brothers fans?

Pippylou · 19/08/2018 18:30

Find friends, preferably large ones, who are used to lifting heavy stuff.

I weightlift and can lift that easily alone on the flat. We would struggle with the incline and if it slips, it could be very nasty indeed.

schooltripwoes · 19/08/2018 18:31

Have you see that episode of Friends with the sofa on the stairs? PIVOT!!!

schooltripwoes · 19/08/2018 18:32

Oh @Girlsworld92 beat me to it Blush

Girlsworld92 · 19/08/2018 18:35

Classic episode 😂😂

Specialsubject it says it's acrylic bonded with resin (shoulder shrug???)

NicoAndTheNiners · 19/08/2018 18:45

If you do attempt it you have to keep shouting pivat repeatedly!

DunesOfSand · 19/08/2018 18:54

specialsubject depends on the airline. Emirates, Ethiad and Turkish usually allow me 30kg per passenger. Hence i know my suitcases were nearly 30kg.

kaytee87 · 19/08/2018 18:57

It's about 7.5stone - should be fine for 2 adults to lift

TooTrueToBeGood · 19/08/2018 18:59

25kg each doesn't sound like too much but it's an awkward shape/size and there are stairs involved. The weight isn't shared evenly and the person walking backwards up the stairs tends to be in a stance perfect for causing injury. Do yourself a favour and ask a couple of friends to help.

BrazzleDazzleDay · 19/08/2018 19:01

I'm not far off 50kg and dh just managed to carry me up the stairs(I've done my back in), granted I'm not bath shaped Grin, our stairs are straight and hallway opens on both sides so plenty room.

Easy peasy I say.

SylvesterTheCat · 19/08/2018 19:08

I am bath shaped so maybe we could try your methodGrin
