If you go on an all inclusive holiday, how much money do you spend?

That's about it really. We're going to a 5 star AI resort, various restaurants, bars etc. 2 small kids who will mainly be happy with pools, beach and kids play areas for entertainment. Wondering how much cash I might need to supplement?

(I know all inclusive package deals aren't for everyone but I have one very picky eater and one dustbin so not having to plan, shop for and cook meals/spend hours traipsing round looking for a restaurant that serves food the fusspot will eat is the very definition of a holiday for me atm).

(Before I get told off for stealth boasting, it is relevant that it is 5 star place because on threads like these people often pipe up that food is shit in the 3 and sometimes 4 star places.)

Depends on what you like doing as a family. We always take extra for trips out and eat outside of the hotels on occasions if we get bored of the buffet. We hardly spend any extra at all but then I am easily pleased.

Beingginger · 19/08/2018 16:50

We’ve just come back from a 4* AI and we spent €300 on extras and trips out. We were away for 10 days.

Very little unless you do lots of organised trips. Don't forget to take smaller denomination bills for tipping (housekeeping and restaurant).

We went on our first week long AI holiday this summer. We spent £100ish thi k it was £97 something when we changed our money back. We took the free hotel shuttle bus to a nearby town and had a drink and ice cream each, we bought DS1 a replica footie kit for the national team and a beach towel on a similar theme, DS2 got a t-shirt and a volley ball. We also bought a inflatable from the hotel shop for the pool. The rest of thw money went on feeding the pool and air hockey tables at the hotel.

Pompom42 · 19/08/2018 16:57

We went 10 days and all inclusive spent £300 on going out on the bus couple times we paid for food out as we wasn't in the resort, bought couple gifts for people and a beach ball etc, soon added up

We’ve just been for a week and spent around £300, that was an evening meal for 4, two day trips and a few ice creams and pool inflatables.

Creasey31 · 19/08/2018 17:01

We went AI for a week and spent about €200. Half on a boat trip that included food and drink and rest on taxis, few nice cocktails, ice creams, beach loungers.

BitchQueen90 · 19/08/2018 17:05

I only take about £100 when I go AI as I book all trips in advance. So that's just for things like sun loungers, ice creams and drinks when we're out of the hotel, maybe some souvenir type bits and possibly one meal out.

SoupDragon · 19/08/2018 17:06

I’ve spent nothing before - the kids were small and it was just me so I was terrified of losing track of one if we went out!

I also put everything I could on the room bill and then settled up by credit card on one go.

This year I needed about $400 in cash. (Taxi fares, an evening out, souvenirs)

BitchQueen90 · 19/08/2018 17:07

(Should mention that's just for 2 of us though, it's just me and DS)

WhatAmISupposedToBeDoing · 19/08/2018 17:07

I don't know if I fancy many trips. We do loads of outings and cultural and improving and educational stuff at home. At the moment not having to go anywhere appeals massively! The children are too small to allow me time to get bored Grin but I suppose after a week I might yearn for the slightly wider world.

It depends where you are going and if you want to take any day trips, we were at the Dominican Republic and it cost £190 each, where as when we were in Mexico some day trips were just under £100 each depending on where your going. Also you'll need money for tips too

MeMyselfand · 19/08/2018 17:08

Too slow typing, just seen your last reply

We tend to spend between £100-£300. The year we spent the most was when we paid for taxi transfers because the free transfer was too long for our liking. In general we have a lunch or two out, buy a few drinks/snacks from supermarket to have at the beach, a crap souvenir plus something touristy (I like boat trips).

We're going away next week, our hotel is quite remote so we need some money for the hotel shuttle bus/taxi if we want to go any further than the nearby town (there's a beach I really want to visit and I expect that will be our only trip away from the hotel and local town) but otherwise I think we'll probably spend about £100 if that this year.

PlaymobilPirate · 19/08/2018 17:20

We've just been 4* AI in Gran Canaria for a week. Did one day trip to Angry Birds land.

The hotel was huge, ds made friends and there was nothing near our hotel.

Spend less than €100

Beingginger · 19/08/2018 17:21

We had a trip on a glass bottomed boat which was the biggest expense, the hotel had a spa and dh had a massage, the kids had some sweets from the hotel shop and then food in the airport on the way home plus tip for the cleaner. We took €400 so we have €100 left.
